Check the fuel filter and the carb. The spark plug too, don't just assume it's good. Look up tutorials if you need, maybe even consult the owner's manual if you still have it, they always have a list of regular maintenance because of the warranty often with pictoral guides. Which might be helpful in figuring out the issue. Anyway, check the fuel filter. If it's dirty then clean it. If it's still shitty then use some kind of treatment. Check the brake cable for slack and make sure the blade spins freely.

the carb bowl is just 1 nut and its off, pull it straight down slowly, turn the gas off if you have a kill switch on the carb/fuel line. There is a gasket for the bowl, do your best to not pull it off with the bowl, because they are a bitch to get back on right.
Since you never took the bowl off before its prolly just filled with shit. My dad would always clean his every summer and there was always little pieces in there about half the size of a dime, looked like paint chips.
if that don't fix it next up is the jets, I tried taking mine off but I think u need a special screw driver to do it, I couldn't get any of mine to catch it to turn it out. carb cleaner might get it and be easier, but it also might not do shit. worst case you could bring it to my house

oh another quick little thing u might wanna do, when the mower starts, push the throttle lever manually by hand (down by the engine where the cable attaches), there's also another one in there for the governor(2 little rods ones a spring actually that go to the carb)Push the thing on the carb where it attaches, try messing with both of those while its running or hold it while starting it.
its possible the throttle cable got out of wack so its not giving it enough gas so doing it by hand u can rule that out. then on the governor there is a couple springs that can get worn out or bent and then the intake will either stay stuck open or closed, its supposed to adjust automatically

This might be a long shot, but were you using a Christmas avatar the last time your mower started?

Please don't laugh at me, but this is the carb, right? And the bowl is what's under the primer, right?

Yeah the thing with the primer attached is the carb. Bowl is the white round thing at the bottom.
Also good luck fixing it. I have never been able to fix a small engine once it starts crapping out, no matter what I did. IMO they're just not made to last very long. Then again I'm not investing a couple hundred dollars in a weed eater or 600+ on a basic mower. I buy the cheapest shit possible, expect to use it for a year, maybe 2, and then replace it. Because in the past trying to fix it has proved impossible for me. Even taking the entire damn thing apart and cleaning it up.

Thanks

When I loosen the bolt, fuel is gonna run out.. Is that just what's in there, or is it gonna run out of and drain the gas Tank?

I wouldn't use acetone. There are many types of plastic that acetone will dissolve.
Most lawn movers have springs that regulate the throttle through feedback with the engine speed. I bet one of them broke off.

I don't see a kill switch for the fuel between the tank and carb

Unless there's a screw or something that I don't see that stops the fuel

Dam, shlong...clean the outside of the carb first...that thing is filthy. If cleaning the bowl out doesn't work...I would guess it's the fuel pump which is just a thin rubber diaphragm on the side of the carburetor just under the primer bulb.....if they get a pinhole in it, they won't work and will act like you are describing.....def sounds like a gas problem if it starts then stops....it's not getting fuel after the primer bulb pumped fuel runs out.
The diaphragm kits are pretty cheap and easy to replace.

The last time I can remember attempting to repair a small engine, it was weed eater, so it could be different, but I didn't need to drain the fuel before removing the carb.
