Grow kits?

For a noob in growing, is it worth it just to buy grow kits like this one - CLICK or is it better to investigate some time and learn all that is required to grow them from start to end, and then buy separate parts?
If you have any useful links then dont hesitate to share.

So the question is - "Is it better to take the time to learn and do things for yourself, or should I take the easy way out and buy a growkit?"
The fact you asked this question means you already know the answer, cmon man it's obvious. Buy the growkit.

Kits suck and are expensive. Make your own Pf cakes.

Having started from a grow kit, I can say that if you follow a PFtek laid out here, you will spend less money and gain more understanding of the process.
With that said, it is nice to have everything prepared for you the first time, just understand that the kit you get is likely to be sub-optimal, and you're going to end up changing out a lot of shit as time goes on anyway, so might as well start out the right way.

One thing that I think all the "grow kits suck" fanatics miss is that first grow can be a huge confidence booster, and you probably *will* get results from a kit, they just won't be as much as you'd hoped for.

yeah thats what I am thinking. but the thing is that growing from zero seems really hard, also, where can you buy all the items needed to start growing from zero? any recommendations?

I started with a kit, but started my second round of jars about a week ago, doing all the prep myself, from brf substrate to using my own spores from a print I took from my very first mushroom, and it really isn't that hard.
All you need is a spore syringe, half pint jars (be sure to go with wide mouth, not regular ones that are taller), brown rice flour (available at Walmart where I live although it's a little pricey), vermiculite (got mine at ace hardware), two plastic tubs (one to grow in one to use as a still air box), a drill, a 1/4" drill bit, a smaller bit for holes on jar lids (nails are a pain in the ass drilling is easy), a pot to boil jars in, and some way to dry them (fan or dehydrator)
It really is easy, just follow the teks to the letter

Your local walmart (I hate walmart) will have everything you need to be up and going as soon as tonight for a better price.
More gratification in doing it all from scratch.

Forgot perlite, which came with my kit and I didn't need more, but I've seen it at walmart, and at various other places like ace and home depot

Not 100% true (my walmart didn't have verm or wide half pints), but it really isn't difficult to find the things you need.

Okay then swing past lowes or home depot if your Walmart doesn't have a garden center.

You wont be disappointed. Fuck a grow kit, you can do way better with zero experience.
