Habitat: Found in Southern Ontario growing solitary and in a group of 3 on unidentified decaying log near hemlock, birch and maple trees. Log was not birch.
Gills: older specimen had rusty brown the rest of them where the same colour as the cap and stem, gills are attached
Stem: length 3.5 cm-9cm, diameter 2.5cm at thickest point, color-yellow orange/rusty brown, texture- smoothish/ fine reddish fibres running up the stem, stem solid, yellow flesh veil remnants stained rusty brown white zone where gills attach
Cap: yellow orange, darker towards the middle. oldest specimen became flat and wavy 2.5cm - 14.5cm wide fine hairs darker scales on a couple of them
Spore print color: rusty brown/orange
Bruising: bruising brown from knife cut or severe injury and greenish from a flick of my finger
Other information: smell is pleasant, taste is bitter
I am new to this and in doing my research I think I have narrowed it down to Gymnopilus but before I try some I would appreciate an expert opinion as I know there are deadly lookalikes.

It's probably Gymnopilus junonius or luteus. I think 50 grams is the go to dose, I've never tripped on them so I don't know from personal experience
