I heard this on the radio just now as I was driving home and I laughed out really loudly.

These people were all emotionally worked up stoning a fictitious Satan.

It sounds like their own business, in principle, what they do with their lives to me.
But it is not my own business what threads I start? Cannot have it both ways.
I would say my disagreement is in principle OC. In principle it would be hard to link atheism with any specific embodied practices, or means and ends, or even any typical expression of belief or ideology, but maybe some people manage that, in being reactionary. That, you could say, is mainly "atheism" aside from a rather unclarifiable notion (in its own restraints) of having no God.
In reactions in general there is definitely a link to the great herd phenomenon. I have no opinion on what is the best herd, and I don't think that is a philosophical topic.
Of course don't let me impinge on any moral right to rev up a cult of reactions here OC, as I see you strive for irony, but irony aside, that doesn't mean there is philosophical substance in what you've said, particularly in comparing one case of an ostensible group's thinking with another's. I am sure you can draw associations just as good as Glenn Beck can manage to on a chalkboard, and get a reaction but this is something else.
Philosophy would provisionally start in the idea of assuming principles, and practices which are found in minding one's own way in the world. To my understanding, it's something personal. These people are representing a philosophy and their freedom to live by it, within their own sense of consequence, (they are living and dying). I see no particular virtue in it, but I am looking from the outside at a philosophy. But I think philosophy is first established in something which belongs to me, or you, or someone else, in this significant sense. Within its own assumptions, it raises the issue of a substantive base or principle of reason, but first it is found in a self contained way of being.
So to clarify, I am questioning the substance of this topic, because we are speaking within an assumed convention or form here. You present a philosophical subject, or question and conversation goes from there. You may think this is the place for a droll media feed, and I won't hinder that other than in asking a question of the substance of that.
I think you are making a mistake in confusing these provisions of dialogue and argument with grounds of being in the world, but that is a personal philosophy thing, I guess. Still, I am within reason to inquire, and so are you. I hope I'm not being too hard put in this question. I would just like to do philosophy, so what is the subject?
Actually, maybe we should just start a "religion and critique" subforum, where we each argue for what the best herd is and the best way to tend a herd for atheists, christians, muslims, and all the rest. See ya there?
Ah just kidding OC, all in good fun... Or do we really have a philosophical premise here?

If every thread was a deep philosophical issue this place would be a ghost town. Sometimes it is just a place to gossip.

The Saudi govt realizes this problem. They had about 350 people trampled to death there a few decades ago. They tried to change the architecture there but obviously that didn't work.
If they were atheists they would have to think it was a Who concert or Pearl Jam.
