I am an avid amanita muscaria experimentor and desperately want to try finding my own mushrooms.
I hae gone into the woods a couple of times near where I am living but I am not finding any of these mushroom. Can anyone give me tips on where to find? I live in southest michigan. I know I have seen them when I was a kid but unfortunately back then I thought they were poisonous and had no idea how high you could get from them.
How easy is it to misindentify them them also? I have also heard they are more dangerous the red variety. What is the highest dose of the yellow ons you guys have taken and did you experience any negative effect?

Don't try hunting for them until you know everything about amanita phalloides and other poisonous amanita species. That is a very risky species to ID and there's not much doctors can do to help you if there isn't a liver donor available.
Good luck and be safe! Sorry i do not have personal experience to offer more advise, I'm honestly too much of a bitch to try

Think these are pretty unmistakable... wouldnt say theyre hard to pinpoint...
Ok.. Pines, and sandy soil is my advice. All my finds have been under pines or cedars in sandy soil. find a place other amanitas like and check

Used to see lots of Fly Agaric in a rest area off the highway between LaGrande and Pendleton. Always in the grass, mostly in October before it starts to freeze.

Amanita Muscaria is Mychorrizal with certain tree species, including pines. I go hunting for them in specific pine forests. They tend to fruit as the weather changes at nights. In my experiences they prefer 50-70 degrees F.
As they said, this is a dangerous species to play around with...but there are a few tricks you can learn to help ID them properly.
1: Concentric rings around the base of the stem. 2. Yellowish/Orange cap, often with bits of the veil still attached (white dots) 3. A Partial Veil still attached under the cap. 4. Growing near, or arround pine trees...(ALOT OF AMANITAS DO THIS! Including death caps) 5. Minimal bruising, off brownish. 6. Noticable Volva, sometimes hidden under the dirt. (Amanita is an important species NOT TO CUT, but harvest entire fruiting body)
and AS ALWAYS post on here for propper ID before any consumption is made! GLHF
