As a lot of you probably noticed, today is the 1st day of fall!
As y'all know, this means summer drought is turning up. :P
I'm getting excited; I've only gotten amanitas and boletes since spring. The next 4-5 days will be rainy around here (North Carolina), and the night time lows are hitting the low sixties, so I'm hoping my lawn and forest (about 1/4 acre lawn, thousands of acres of forest, plus a two acre cemetery) will have some good yields. If I find anything, I'm collecting spore prints and starting my first batch of grows.
To those of you new(er than me) to shroom hunting (which is about 1% of the forum...), fall is the time at which the most varieties of mushrooms are likely to flush, making it the best time to hunt in pretty much anywhere other than tropical zones! I'm going to have to bust out my flamethrower though; spiders still hang from tree branches like trip mines, ready to scurry through my hair and down my shirt, into my.... well, you get the picture.
Anyway, just let out all your hunting season hype! This is the place.
And guys? Post it before you eat it. Please. Just a few days ago, I had some amanitas that, at first, second and third glance, looked like A. muscaria var alba, a trippable shroom. But they weren't actually muscaria. Nope. They were A. cokeri. Toxic, in a bad way. And those little "panaeolus" you have? Check 'em. Double check 'em. Not sure? Post 'em. Actually, post them anyway. If nothing else *check the damn stipe*. If it has a ring, DON'T EAT IT. IT WILL MAKE YOU FEEL LESS ALIVE. AND THEN BE LESS ALIVE.
TL/DR: FALLL! Mushies are growin'! And don't eat random LBMs. But you already knew that.
Peace,
Reaper

Whereabouts? Same. As I said, I've been having a dry spell. I think I might have seen some pans a few days ago though. LBM, droopy, striated parasol, no stipe ring. Imma have to check it out.

PNW here. I've been spying many dudes hiding in between the grass, there is a lot going on even though it's been relatively dry. A few rains here and there, colder temperatures are all really bringing out the shrooms, but man once this fall sets in things are going to explode! I am so goddamn excited!
I was out in the mountains in Snoqualmie recently, even though they were sparse, there were so many mushrooms to admire!

Heh. Yep! I saw about as many mushrooms in the past week as I saw over the three months before it. No psychoactives, but some really interesting stuff. I also found a bright yellow bolete that you can actually write with. Not even kidding. It has a yellow goo on top, which rubs off any anything and everything.
