When I was down in Mexico 2 years ago a friend and I modified the hoels of a really big but old still air box and used it as a fruiting chamber. This thing was like 4 feet long. I never got pictures of it.
Your experiment will work. The more surface area the better, when it comes to fruiting. It's just important to never make subs too thick, as the extra heat and lack of o2 can cause anaerobic bacteria issues.

TBH, I think that it could work reasonably well in a baby pool as long as the substrate wasn't too deep and you could keep it from drying out. I would case it after colonization, then place it in a tent with an ultrasonic and a fan. You knows, maybe.

A baby pool would be awsome, some day I will try that if I have enough extra materials. I imagine something like course perlite would be necessary to keep it from packing too much. I bet you would get some monsters in the later flushes.

I would guess so too. I think that perlite would be a good thing to add, but it would definitely need to be cased IMO to prevent it from drying out. I honestly think that the best way to do it would be to place it in a large greenhouse with a few humidifiers. Honestly, I as long as it didn't dry out, I don't see why it couldn't work. Someone needs to just try.

Awesome! Good luck! I don't have much experience with big tubs, but I'd guess that moving it after colonization would likely crack it. The weight would probably pull down the structure and put too much pressure on the sub. Just a heads up!

Baby pool grow
Also, someone did a very successful like 20' X 20' green house indoors. LOL she has so many shrooms (she thought she was going to get rich) and then couldn't find anyone to sell them to if I remember correctly.
*Just read it and got disappointed all over again...bummer

Thanks for finding that! That is a real tragedy. He stated that he had to throw the whole thing out because someone called the cops on him. I would be so sad

Guys, I'm sorry. It's done. All of the spawn jars I used looked and smelled clean, but there must have been something hiding in there. What should I do? I have four spawn bags sitting around, and I was thinking about using two of them and giving this another shot. I really want to get this one right. This whole thing feels so unsatisfying.

Put some plywood under the tub to carry it by like an earlier posters said! Go thin on your sub depth too. Good luck!

Alright! I decided to try this one more time. I used two spawn bags, each with about 8 quarts of spawn. Hopefully it goes better this time around. I'll post an update when it's either colonized or contaminated.

I've been having great results with the 105 Sterilite. I'm down from a 4"sub to 3", and loving the results. A typical mono has the following ingredients:
Shredded straw - 380g dry Coir - 450g dry Verm - 2 quarts Gypsum - probably 1/2 cup Dry kelp - 30 ml (added to coir buckets) Rye spawn - 7 very full jars (probably 6 full quarts)
Cased at full consolidation (15-18 days) , with coir/verm 3/16". FAE at 40-60 %, no patching.
I make 6 of these at a time, every 7-10 days...

Hey guys! Just wanted to give an update. Everything is looking good, and I cased yesterday with a layer of pasteurized jiffy mix. I closed it back up, so hopefully I won't see any signs of contams before I patch.
I'll post another update with a few pics once it's patched and in fruiting. I just didn't feel like a picture was warranted here.

Looking good! The casing layer was patched today and fruiting conditions were introduced. I'm not trying to get my hopes up too high, but if contaminants have not showed presented themselves by now, there is a good chance we can make it to harvest. In my experience, most tubs that become contaminated fall prey to mold during colonization. Fingers crossed!
