Sorta just getting into The Dead, as my parents (mostly my dad) were deadheads and used to play their music throughout the house when i was a kid.
What are some of their best sounding live show recordings? I just listened to the 5/8/77 show and that was awesome. Especially the Scarlet~Fire otm.

I love 5/8/77 a lot too, but honestly don't think scarlet-fire is the best thing ever like most people for some reason. That minglewood blues opener and lazy lightning supplecation is top of the line
5/9/77 has an awesome franklins tower and is a solid show all around
6/9/77 winterland is pretty dank
IDK, lotsa good '77 shows
3/29/90 is pretty fuckin dank with the guy on saxaphone. I love sax.

The Dick's Picks series is a good place to start. Also any of the shows that have been released as an album- Europe 72 is good, One From The Vault is good, Without a Net is OK.

I saw Darkstar Orchestra cover 3/29/77 once and it was one of the best concerts i've ever been to. Me and my friends were high as shit on acid and one of them got lost during drums & space so we were all wandering around looking for each other in a bizarre alien world of trippyass sounds, and the venue had a light projection of kaleidescopes all over the walls on top of the regular strobin nd general almost pitch-blackness. we all found each other at the right time and had to talk security into letting him back in cuz he went outside (right past us nd didnt see us but we saw him)
i dunno it was a helluva night tho. turn on your lovelight with sax was top of the line. eyes of the world into prophet was fucking tight too. i was so high on intermission i was panicking and ready to leave

Halloween 85 was the only GD show played in SC so it might be worth checking out. Show starts off with a trippy space howling theme and then launch in WOL for the first time in a while

it's true that the 90s didn't yield the highest quality shows but there definitely are some gems from the spring 93 tour

So many good shows, but here lately i've been going through and listening to all the Road Trips albums. So good.
Checkout 5/26/93 and 5/27/93. Extremely sci-fi and spacey stuff.

I can never remember dates but the ones I listen to most are One from the vault, closing of winterland 77, sunshine daydream and the fillmore west 69 collection of shows. that's quite a lot of stuff right there

Whats wrong with the archives format? It is pretty damn simple and as a search function if you have trouble navigating.
Someone probably already mentioned it and I just didn't recognize the date but the closing of Winterland show is very solid + it is a movie

the dead on demand is far more luxurious than archive, layout-wise
check it out man

I pretty much never listen to them anymore or I would
I only use the archives for downloading music anyways and it works perfect for that

downhill from here at alpine valley in 89 is one of the best grateful dead shows, imo. 72, 77, 78, 83-85, 87-89 are the best years. i'll post some specific shows later. some of their best shows are in the 80s, for sure. brent mydland took the dead to a whole other level....
