What is this beauty bark I'm trying to stay away from?

Would someone be so awesome to post some habitat pictures of bark that psilocybe cyanescens and allenii love? I looked for soooooooooo long last season and only found one patch. I've been riding my bike all over town scoping out possible locations but I don't want to mark a bunch of spots where the bark just won't fruit psilocybes.

Thanks everyone :hug::heart:

It's wood chippings that turn up the goodies. Beauty bark is just what it sounds like; primarily shredded bark with little heartwood/sapwood content. Beauty bark is usually somewhat darker. What you want is a mulch comprising of the trees structural wood as well. You will still get mushrooms in bark-based mulches but nowhere near as many.

A tree's bark is a protective layer that contains a whole host of antimicrobials, antifungals, tannins etc. All of these can be detrimental to fungal growth, this is why proper chippings which are usually lighter in colour are a much better substrate. Hope this helps.
