Spraying with tap water with HIGH calcium content
    #22275766 - 09/22/15 07:03 PM (8 years, 4 months ago)

Look I know the subject of whether or not tap water can be used to spray pf-style cakes has been addressed quite a bit in other posts, but specifically I live in the desert where growing mushrooms can be a bit of a challenge and my tap water here that I used to spray them is so high in calcium that I literally see fine white build-up on my cakes / fruits.

Everything I have read in other forums about tap water being a problem had to do with either A. bacteria content or B. Chlorine content and I just find it unlikely that my cakes / fruits being COVERED in calcium isn't a problem.

I have aborts on some cakes but that happens with or without problems. Does anyone have a definitive answer on this question?

Thanks so much!

I've read posts where people use tap water and it doesn't affect fruiting. If you're ever in doubt just boil the water and let it cool before administering.

That has nothing to do with the mineral content.

If you really think it's a problem, buy a jug of water which should last you through 1 - 3 grows worth of misting. At $2 dollars a jug that's a small price to pay for good shrooms.

Calcium is not bad. If you're worried about chlorine, leave a pot
of water out on your counter for 24 hours. The chlorine will evap and
dissipate.
