Hmm that's kind of an odd development. I guess the application it was saying for a MRI would be cool - not having to get in the thing.

LHC has already produced some compelling data to support the existence of the Higgs boson, which is a big deal. If they crank it up to full power nothing crazy is going to happen though.

When they had the issue that caused a setback. that was not fcking aliens. It was a coolant leak and the explosive change of liquid He to a gas ripped some of the magnets from their mounts. I think they had to wait for weeks just to begin repairs due to the time it took for temperatures to rise; similarly it take a long time to cool it back down.

The LHC is going to be instrumental in furthering our understanding of quantum physics, allowing us to improve on the models and in some cases, confirming or refuting certain elements of the theory. It is a very good thing and the sensational BS about blowing up the world is just plain stupid.

Stephen hawking refers to CERN as tragic and being the greatest threat to humanity yet. What makes you so sure that nothing crazy would happen?

Because our inner earth-dwelling reptilian overlords won't allow it.

What are the actual threats of a CERN misfire? A rip in time...  a blackhole...?

A black hole vacuum expanding at the speed of light and swallowing the whole universe. Basically the big crunch.

You think the end of the entire universe (or this universe) will happen from planet earth? There are massive black holes in our own galaxy, I doubt anything us humans do will over power them LOL

If the mass higgson where some how stripped from it's structure then every mass higgson could be lol

Something tragic has already happened in my life so I'm not that worried...

micro gravity is present in water at times in a vortex shape, causing building blocks to form...

No, stephen Hawkings thinks that. Take it up with him. I don't think CERN will ever become active to any meaningful level.

@zappa this link isn't a larger news website but it has the vid of him making the warning. Apparently Neil Degrasss Tyson agrees with him.

Lol you trollin? This is an excerpt from a book he contributed to.

https://www.rt.com/op-edge/313922-cern-collider-hadron-higgs/

“The God particle found by CERN could destroy the universe,” Hawking wrote in the preface to a book, Starmus, a collection of lectures by scientists. The Higgs Boson could become unstable at very high energy levels and have the potential to trigger a “catastrophic vacuum decay which would cause space and time to collapse and… we would not have any warning to the dangers,” he continued.
