Any kid.

LOL how is it a hoax? where is the proof that the thing was designed "to look like a bomb"?
it's all assumption on that point.
it wasn't a bomb, he shouldn't have gotten arrested, there is no proof that he made it "look like a bomb" with any purposeful intent to create a bomb scare: case closed.
unless someone can indeed prove that the kid made it to look like a bomb to intentionally create a bomb scare. (what reason would there be for doing that anyway?)

Oh I certainly agree they went way overboard. But apparently he just took the guts from a commercial clock and put it another box.

true. ok, i am just curious as to your point...everyone is talking about that, how "it's not really his work, it's someone else's work".
but i ask them, who cares if it's a refurbishment or not? does it really fucking matter? and why, if so?
personally i think it obfuscates the issue of the kid being arrested and having his life put on blast for no good reason other than a fearful reaction to an "ominous-looking" case. did you know that school apparently has marksmanship training, and kids are allowed bring in rifles to school? that people should be scared of a bomb that isn't a bomb just because of the possibility that it is one, but not have that sort of weariness for a marksmanship student that could bring his gun to school to shoot it up, i think, is a pretty big oversight to those that make the argument that the reaction was legitimate.
imagine that, kids who bring their gun into another class, "i didn't feel like putting it in my locker", which i'd suspect probably happens from time to time, but that's besides the point.

Like I said before, I didn't have a problem with them looking into it. Even if there was some miscommunication, as he had already had it supposedly cleared with some of the staff, them just making sure it's nothing, I got zero problem with.
Arresting him and suspending him though, especially after they had confirmed that it was nothing, is/was ridiculous. No question about it.
But him getting put on blast -- that's on the media. The media eats this shit up. Anything to do with race, especially when it's white America versus black folks or Muslims -- that's just a fat, juicy steak of a story for the news networks. It's like a juicy slab of red meat tossed into a hyena den.
The media exploded this into a national story.
But anyway, I wouldn't feel sorry for him. The kid has been soaking it up. Did you catch his press conference (lol that he had a press conference)? He was loving it and smiling from ear to ear. And isn't he going to the white house (among other things) now?
The kid is going to be fine, trust me. He feels like a fucking celebrity right now.

yeah, but why do people keep focusing on that? BECAUSE he's going to the white house/getting a scholarship? are people jealous or do they think that's unfair? is that why people are so intent on arguing about that?
like i said already: the kid is getting these things to give him an opportunity to recover from this incident. it makes sense given he's been arrested (stain on his permanent record) and paraded, giving some people ammunition to call him a terrorist or a hoaxer.
i mean, really i can't fathom what the point is here. that he's no genius, ok sure, but who is at his age, not very many...and why must he be smeared further for the fact that he didn't make every single part of his pet project himself, he ain't fucking selling the thing, so who CARES?!
it's hurting my head.
who-fuck-ing-cares and why?
he made it, he didn't claim he made every single piece of it, and why? because it doesn't matter, that's why...but people keep talking about it like it does. the kid never asked for the media to portray him as a genius, pre-emptively, as if he knew he was going to be in the headlines. it's like if i had a kid who drew with a stencil and people were like "but he didn't do that himself he had help!"
why does it matter?

First off, there's no way that "arrest" stays on his record...right? It was proved to be a harmless clock, so what exactly was he ultimately charged with? Surely that will be dropped from his record.
And I'm telling you bro, the kid is absolutely LOVING this right now. He's not going to be permanently scarred or anything from this, lol. He got a raw deal that day but his five minutes of fame will more than make up for his "tragic" ordeal

If you look a little closer than the media hype. What he actually built LOOKS ALOT like a bomb. This kid didnt even discuss it with his teacher. His fault really... But there is racial profiling going on

He showed it to the engineering teacher who said it was cool but that he shouldn't show it to anyone else. Then it beeped in class.

Part of me is angry that if I had did a similar thing at his age there is no way the President would have invited me to the White House.

The other part of me thought it was cool that the kid was rocking a NASA T-shirt one day.

The engineering teacher knew it was nothing. The English teacher did not. Male teacher. Female teacher. Need I go on? Do you know what the Latin root of hysteria is?
