The typical American bases his life on fear. He fears what is different and unknown. Through interaction with his typical fellow Americans, this fear is spread and multiplied. He will not spend the time to research and dig for the truth, in the cases of the cartoon and the news article, will not discover that all the members of a particular religion do not take an extremist stance and in fact promote peace. He will in fact fear doing so for being persecuted by his fellow Americans. An enemy or threat must be perpetuated in order for government(s) to achieve their goal(s).

I love how people from other countries have become tenured professors & experts on the average American. The amount of time you guys spend thinking about us is amazing, really.

If the kid can build a clock at 14 years old, what other dangerous things will he build when he's 24!
Send him to jail. He's 14, he can be tried as an adult. Also this falls under the Patriot Act. The military can detain him indefinitely without due process. But since he's Muslim with a clock, he can be sent to a supermax facility under "Special Administrative Measures" and be isolated 23 hours a day in a sensory deprivation cell for months before his trial which he will most likely get no rights of visitation and not be allowed to view the evidence against him or even talk to his lawyer.
Once the trial actually begins, he will be broken psychologically, he won't be able to defend himself, nor will any of the evidence be made public or even showed in the court room because of the Classified Information Protection Act. At which point, the jury will be kept secret (to induce fear in their minds) so that they will more than likely say he's guilty and he'll spend the next 70 years of his life in a supermax under SAM psychological torture.
Because that is what the US justice system has become.

PS: i can't find any info on any science assignment, this may be code words used to obfuscate the issue, and i apologize for legitimizing it.
it may have been done to impress a teacher at school; however, it is in evidence that the kid had told his teacher about it and that it was cleared by him, and that it was a misinformed teacher that was alarmed about it.

I am an American.

He's not wrong though..
I think there have been more posts on the upcoming presidential election made by Canadians than Americans.
It really doesn't stop there, either. There are constant threads by people from other countries asking for clarification or trying to rouse debate on American politics.
Even the people who swear up and down they hate this country ~cough Kakashi cough cough~ can't keep "America" out of their mouth. Other countries seem to be weirdly infatuated with us.

It looked like a bomb. The kid was arab up the ass.
Stereotypes exist for a reason. Unwarranted prejudice? Maybe. Blown out of proportion? 100%.
Even still.
I think he knew exactly what he was doing.
