One of my peyote - produced 8 or 9 seedlings - all under the fierce Spanish sun, with no help from me. Of course, no sign of any sunburn or such rubbish because it DOESN´T HAPPEN !!! This species loves the sun!!

But I don´t suppose the garbage will stop !!!!

Ok, you haven't experienced sunburn with your plants, great. Surely you don't believe it's impossible for peyote to get sunburned though?

Do I believe what I have never experienced?? Wow this is getting metaphysical !!
I am sorry psi - but I have about 50 peyote at the moment - of varying sizes - some came here with from the UK, the vast majority were born here. I have been growing peyote from seed here for 15 years. NONE of them have EVER had any problems with the sun - as far as I am concerned they were BORN to grow in the Mexican desert, so that is no surprise.
Then people like you keep bleating that this species that is BORN to grow in the fiercest sun on the planet has got sunburn. You want my honest comment? All I can possibly say is BULLSHIT !!!!
Now I have NOTHING MORE to say on this tedious subject !!!! So don´t reply to this and expect a response - there is NOTHING MORE to say. !!!
OK geddit - NOTHING MORE - zilch - zipped !!!

You didn't quite answer the question, but ok. I guess you have with your most recent edits in saying you believe it's bullshit.
If you're interested in seeing it with your own eyes though, try this experiment. Bring one or more of your plants inside for a few months under artificial light, and then abruptly start exposing them to all-day direct sunlight again. For extra credit, set up a reflective surface nearby to direct additional UV rays towards them.
It certainly is possible to get them used to full sun in my experience (and yours.) But it is also possible for them to get sunburned given the right (or if you prefer, wrong) conditions. I and numerous other growers here know this from experience. The same goes for other cacti that get plenty of sun in nature.

Not sure I follow. Are you saying that you've put indoor-acclimatized peyotes out into full-day direct sun on many occasions and never had any problems with even mild sunburn? That I do have a hard time believing, though I don't live where you live. Perhaps the sunlight reaching Toronto is somehow much harsher than that over Spain. There would be more hours of daylight here in the summer I think, but my plants are in the shade for the late afternoon.

Spanishfly said: Lophophora are native to the Mexican desert, and live in a totally sunny climate. My own Lophophora williamsii are fully exposed to the strong Spanish sun and they love it. Never heard of one getting sunburn, in the 15 years I have been growing them here. The only way this could happen would be if a plant were moved from a shaded exposure to a sunny exposure without letting it acclimatise gradually. When I buy any plant from Northern Europe I let it gradually acclimatise to the Spanish sun over a month or so.
Forgot you had posted this earlier in the thread — clearly you do see sunburn as a potential concern, or you wouldn't bother with these precautions. I can only guess that your bluster about it being complete bullshit is an attempt to get people pissed off by arguing a position that you yourself don't even really hold (in other words, trolling.)
