Is this A. Muscaria var Alba, or a lookalike? Tell me before I eat it. :P
    #22272798 - 09/22/15 06:38 AM (8 years, 4 months ago)

Hey, shroom-o-nauts!

I found some Amanitae in my back yard, and I'm hoping they are the fun type. (Crenulata/muscaria).  Without further ado, here are some pics.

There are also a few oddball shrooms I can't figure out at the end.  The yellow one has pores.

EDIT: I'm starting to think there may be two types of amanitae in this patch.  Pic 4's warts look off compared to the others.

Thanks guys!!

Reaper

The last one is a Scleroderma species.

Where's your sense of adventure son?

Edit- don't fucking eat that. Don't eat Amanita s if you can't identify them, that shit looks very toxic and unlike any form of white muscaria I have seen.
Have you tried Soma before?

Not A.muscaria!

I recognize this but don't recall the name or if it is edible, but it is an Amanita. I would advise not to eat.

If by blusher you mean A.rubescens or A.amerirubescens, it is not either of those either which would be edible after cooking.

Yeah, I was just using that to get a reply.  I don't intend to eat something I can't ID.  Thanks!

Looks pretty much spot on.  Thanks!  The one thing that confuses me is that the wikipedia page says it has no distinctive odor, but this thing stinks to high heaven.  Reminds me of a little chocolate plus a lot of creamy earl grey tea.

There's a whole subgenus, "Lepidella" of things like this. Many have a strong odor. Some even grow on grass! Key it out, but the group seems poorly understood. I've certainly never been brave enough to try and get positive IDs on them.

I suppose I need to hang up my sword on this one.  But hey, if it is toxic, I now have almost a liter of premium grade deadmaker tea!

Amanita cokeri for sure

I give you the choice of 2 pills.

With each containing one of the following:
Cyanide... Psilocin... Would you take the risk?
Didn't think so.

This is why Positive Identification prior to consumption is important.

Lol.  Alpha amanitin is soluble in water.  Boil a few deathcaps, you get some nasty stuff.
