50% of all life dies. It is not just half of all species. 100% of one species could live, and 100% of another could die. Pushing the button could theoretically (I don't really know the numbers) reduce the planet back to a single cell organism only state. There are no guarantees of who or what would be preserved.

word.

I'm gonna leave it to fate on this one then.

I'd rather hope for a chance of everything surviving, than irreversibly wiping out a ton life for the sake of certainty.

certainty is over-rated.

I'd push it.

That's like the perfect population control scenario.

I would in a heart-beat if it was just humans being reduced.

but think of all the other species that are gonna be effected by that decision. we've already wiped out way too many; I'd hate to add onto that list.

what if bees were wiped out?
we're all fucked and then it was a pointless move.

what do you mean by that vague statement?

look at his post above mine.

it's 50% of the whole at random.

could include or exclude anything.  in total or partial.  there seems to be no rhyme or reason to what will and won't die, so it's a huge gamble that you might wipe out an entire specie that we depend on.

We need to get rid of half the people on the planet anyways. What a fortuitous opportunity.

yeah but what if all (or most) the people stay and all the rad animals take the wrath.

we'd be 100 times worse.

I really can't see a light in which the button is a good idea.
