Issue 3 in Ohio: Marijuana Legalization. On Ballot November 3rd

There's an issue with this setting up a monopoly by Responsible Ohio. What do you guys think? I live here and wasnt sure about it at first. It seems like only ten grow sites allowed in state for rec but whoever gets approved for medical could have their own grow facility and shop. http://yeson3ohio.com/the-amendment/

I understand people's concern with the wealthy campaign contributors getting all 10 initial commercial grow farm licenses, but I think it's anything to be concerned with, much less something that would cause legalization advocates to not vote for it or vote against it. Here's an article that explains that after a few years, new licenses can be granted.
Quote:
The commission will concentrate particularly on meeting the demands of the market, with the ability to revoke licenses from growers who aren't growing enough pot. After a few years, the commission will also be able to establish new farms, so the 10 initial farms may not be the only growers for very long.
James claimed that the setup, which is essentially a gift to campaign contributors, was necessary to lock in funding for the ballot measure — particularly in a state where campaigns are notoriously expensive and public opinion on legalization is so evenly split. "If the statehouse won't pass it … then it's up to the voters," James said. "And Ohio is so expensive for ballot issues, it requires funding. In Colorado, it required millions of dollars. In Ohio, it's going to cost tens of millions of dollars."
So basically, unfortunately, without these millionaires donating their millions to this campaign, it stands no chance. And if it doesn't pass, the investors don't get any return on their investment. So I think it's a fair reward to give these guys a three year head start on the large scale commercial growing. They're taking all of the financial risk here and I think they should be rewarded. And don't forget, everyone over 21 can pay $50 and be legally allowed 4 flowering plants and 8 ounces of pot.
So get out there and vote YES on Issue 3 Ohio Shroomerites! End marijuana prohibition in your state, which is the 7th most populace state in America THIS TUESDAY!

Glad to hear you guys are supporting it! Spread the word everywhere. This could be another huge moment for the marijuana movement! Tell your friends and family that I said.......

Based on the fact that they own and regulate the grow sites but anyone can lease the land from them plus they will add more if needed. I didn't see the word monopoly on the ballot myself. No one would care if other dates had something different.

I oppose a cartel/monopoly running things. Its better now with individuals taking their chances growing and profiting than to let a fascist cartel/monopoly take it over.

It really isn't a monopoly, you're right, but it's also a stupid thing to argue over.
If you don't want to grow you have to buy from a store that has to buy from one of the 10 manufacturers, or have a friend share one ounce with you. They can share eight ounces if you get the appropriate license.
Even if they increase the manufacturers it's still just going to be more of the same people. If you wanted to get into commercial growing, too bad. All of the investors were required by Responsible Ohio to donate $2 million. The people who own these places are multimillionaires. Former athletes, entertainers, wealthy doctors, etc.
The manufacturers can also set the prices at whatever they want, and the stores cannot sell them for less than what they purchase for. They don't really need to compete, they can just "agree" to sell high and no one can do anything about it because no one else can enter the market.
Additionally, the manufacturers are assigned counties. So it's a pretty safe bet that the manufacturer here in Franklin county will have a corner on the Columbus market. Same for Cuyahoga County (Cleveland) and Hamilton County (Cincinnati).
So if the initial 10 grow sites aren't enough, the commission can choose to allow more FOUR YEARS later, and even then it will just be more of the same people.
No thanks.

I'm not really sure where you're getting this information either.
http://ballotpedia.org/Ohio_Marijuana_Legalization_Initiative,_Issue_3_(2015)
Quote:
The amendment would create 10 Marijuana Growth, Cultivation and Extraction (MGCE) facilities. These 10 facilities would have exclusive rights to commercial production; it was this aspect of the amendment that led the Ohio General Assembly to add the competing Issue 2 to the ballot.
The MGCE facilities would be run independently to prevent collusion, as required by the Sherman Antitrust Act. There would be no vertical integration of marijuana businesses, meaning that those who cultivated the plants could not also sell directly to the public.[4]
Property owners agreed to let the 300 people that each facility expects to employ unionize and collectively bargain.[5]
Each MGCE facility has at least one investor, some of whom are local celebrities:[4]
Former 98 Degrees singer Nick Lachey Former Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Frostee Rucker Dayton pain specialist Suresh Gupta WEBN radio host Frank Wood Barbara Gould, a philanthropist based in Indian Hill University of Cincinnati basketball star Oscar Robertson Paul Heldman, former general counsel of The Kroger Co. Right, so the owners of the facility can choose if they want to lease them out or not. It's not simply that anyone who wants to lease can.

No it wouldn't, the casinos are already in place. Issue 2 makes it so things basically have to go through a two step process in order to get voted in. Things that are already voted in won't be effected. At least that's my understanding of it.

I think 2 is going to get destroyed, I think 3 will barely pass. There are plenty of non-smokers who don't really care/or still think it's absurd that it's illegal who will vote for it because of tax reasons. I think they outnumber non-smokers like myself voting no, and I think the amount of people who do smoke who vote yes will outnumber those who vote no.

Voting No on 2 would fuck with the casinos too, so I was gonna vote no anyway.
No it wouldn't, the casinos are already in place. Issue 2 makes it so things basically have to go through a two step process in order to get voted in. Things that are already voted in won't be effected. At least that's my understanding of it.
Yeah i know but you do have the right to atleast apply or so they say, these people are obviously full of shit but none the less im excited for it.

But this vote has enormous implications for the rest of the country and how quickly it will be legalized in every state. They aren't just voting for Ohio tonight.

I disagree. I'm an Ohioan myself. My core values are capitalism and freedom. This law on the ballot is anti-capitalist, it is literally fascist in the "cronie-capitalism" fascist tradition that has replaced authentic capitalism so much in my country. To take back America on the greater level we can not compromise our values for some minor victories that aren't even victories.
Our country is captured by bankers and facists. They control everything right now. The tea party was able to kick out Boehner from the speakership and is making good progress in educating the public despite major attacks on them by both major parties. We're winning, we're kicking the bastards out, and we're eventually going to put the fascist political crooks in jail where they belong. This law is backwards, it creates more of what we're opposing politically. One step forward doesn't count if its followed by two steps back. See, there's a bigger picture at stake here.

To me it doesn't seem like it didn't pass because people didn't want a select few monopoly's running the show.
Seems more like the people overall just didn't want it to be legalized there to begin with, which is pretty sad.
I also doubt another bill will come along next year, we should just get rid of ohio and everyone in there, bunch of bitches posted up on frank block is all that state is.

I know alot of smokers who support legalization including myself and not one of us voted yes to allow a monopoly run the show. If there was no monopoly connected to the bill I bet it would have passed with flying colors. Not to mention it wasn’t a presidential election year so I'm sure young voter turn out was low.

A lot of pot heads voted no. A lot of people think this is worse than the way it is now, with a monopoly and only being allowed to grow 4 plants after you get a police inspection of your home without a warrent. The bill was anti capitalism and anti freedom.

I didn't read the bill; however, from the way you described it sounded like a shit bill. Same bullshit went down with California. If a good bill was put out it would have definitely already been legalized here, but these rich fucks put out a shitty bill that only benefitted them so many of the marijuana users voted no. What do we care? We will just keep groovin with our awesome MMJ system. Come back with a better fucking bill next time. I think a legalization bill is hard pressed to win when you have pot smokers voting no on it.

Well that failed pretty hard, nobody liked these bastards. Responsible Ohioans for Cannabis has a much better proposal for next year.

Theres also OTEP and a few others just trying to get medical. With the states approval rating for medical marijuana it would be hard for a politician to ignore those numbers. I would be amazed if we didn't at least get medical on the ballot.

Honestly I really think that you are such a hypocrite. You say you smoke weed yet you are so adamantly against marijuana legalization. People like you really piss me off. People like you are why it didn't pass in ohio.

Your crazy as I have stated many times I support marijuana legalization. I'm not about to funnel money into 10 peoples pockets though. We are the only state that tried to pass a bill like that and it would have been ridiculous if it went through. Not all of us are willing to jump on the first bill with it being as crooked as it is. We are older than 5 years old and we can wait for our candy.
And I take that as a compliment that people like me were smart enough to read the 7 page bill and make up there own mind.

Its a constitutional amendment, can't change it that easy. Not to mention you think the cartel will let any power slip once that money starts funnelling in?

Its a political disagreement, takes two sides to build a country. I'm adult enough to agree to disagree. I'm sorry your so childish that you can hate someone because of a simple disagreement.

I like that the most vitriolic response I get is from people who don't live in Ohio and probably didn't even know this was on our ballot until yesterday.
