Hunting for psilocybe semilanceata in Tuscany
    #22272428 - 09/22/15 02:14 AM (8 years, 4 months ago)

I live in Italy where mushroom hunting is a national sport, but where knowledge of psilocybes is very limited. I have friends who are expert mushroom hunters  through knowledge passed down over generations, they are currently out in the mountains in Tuscany at between 1000-1500m above sea level and are keeping an eye out for liberty caps. They have sent me this photo for identification, what do you think? From what I've learned, the fact that they don't appear to be growing in grass would indicate some other mushroom and none of them have the spear or bell shape. The nipple however is very apparent, does this appear on other mushrooms too? I've asked them for more pics and also to do a spore test. Any advice whatsover would be highly appreciated

Yes the grown pattern and habitat are wrong. They are not P. semilanceata. Lot's of mushrooms feature this 'nipple' (although not necessarily exactly the same as in P. semilanceata).
