Schizophrenic in need of support
#22271147 - 09/21/15 07:33 PM (8 years, 4 months ago) |

Hey guys, throughout my high school years i was a heavy drug user. Was in the top 10% of my class, your typical band geek (up until jr year. Band was taking up too much of my time which i could have been doing drugs with my friends: and by drugs i mean pills all of them from x to xanax to adderall to percocets to morphine, to crack, to psychedelics, to weed, to what ever i could get my hands on) During my jr year I started getting major depression and anxiety and it started interfering with my grades. Somewhere between my jr and senior year i started getting really really paranoid, i couldnt for the love of god focus on my work. At home was a different story...(i might end up writing my life story in length and in detail and post it here and on reddit. Its really hard for me to concentrate and think of coherent sentences. Right now my minds all over the place so Ill probably work on it this week and post it this weekend) During my second semester of Senior year i legit thought of dropping out and getting my GED. I knew i was half a mile away from the finish line but i couldnt understand what was happeneing to my mind and what was happeneing around me. My life had spiraled out of control. I went to a psychiatrist several times throughout my senior year. I got diagnosed with disorganized schizophrenia, adhd, depression, major anxiety, and paranoia. I went on and off to my psychiatrist, got prescribed Adderall, seroquel, clonozapin, clonazepam. all at different occasions. Near the end of my senior year my mom got tired of my shit and decided she didnt want to take me to my psychiatrist anymore because she wanted me to grow up, get a job, and pay for the psychiatrist myself. I told my parents i couldnt get a job because i was too anxious and paranoid for one but my mother forced me to so i ended up working at mcdonalds....for one month. I just couldnt handle it. My parents arent very understanding. They both think that everthings ok and im not schizo.
This past year has probably been the worst year of my life. Ive been through some mental shit thats left me more traumatized that i already was when i was in high school. Its really hard for me to talk to anyone especicially my family. My mother and father keep pushing me to go to college and get a job so they can get rid of me already but for me, a job and college arent that easy. For example, these two grammatically incorrect and incoherent paragraphs took me about an hour and a half to type out. Not only because i cant think straight, but because its really hard for me to recall past events. As much as i try to remember, it takes me awhile to fully recall something. Imagine me trying to study in college? or take a test? I have always loved education, loved learning, loved socializying, loved the atmosphere of school. I used to have shitload of friends up until senior year. Not a day goes by that i dont regret living the life style i lived in high school.. I do plan on going to college one of these days but as of right now? it doesnt seem like im cut out for it. So its gonna be on hold for another year or two.
Since i dont have a job, my parents dont financially support me, and im putting college on hold for now, do yall think i should start a gofundme fundrasier for myself and attempt to raise a couple thousand dollars for the time being? The money would go to my psychiatrist and medicine (im thinking about going to a psychiatrist again so they can do a reevaluation on me and maybe even some cat scans to see if theres anything physically wrong with my brain) food, hygiene stuff, and possibly some rent seeing as to how mom is telling me im goind to have to start paying rent soon.
thoughts??

Wouldn't hurt to try I suppose
What do you enjoy doing?
And can you think of ways to convert that into profit?
You're an instrumentalist no?
Live near a city where you can busk?
As long as you focus on making decisions that you see clearly are the best for your wellbeing, and intend on healing from your situation I think everything will play out for the best, and you'll be a more well rounded and strong person for it

How on earth do your parents not believe you are schizophrenic? It's pretty noticeable when someone is. And your doctor prescribed you medicine? No offense but..what the hell is wrong with your parents? To isolate your child like that when they could be sick...

Not all parents love their children unconditionally, I work with a girl whose parents disowned her due to having a learning disability(slightly autistic) and her brother too and so they are on their own. I do believe you could get support from the government for your disability as I know she does.

Are you currently taking your medications?
Do the medications help?
I don't imagine the gofundme thing will really garner a whole lot of support unless you become some type of media circus ordeal. It's worth a shot, but I would avoid getting my hopes up about that.
With the appropriate treatment you should be able to function well enough in society to maintain a job and go to school if that is what you want to do. The primary thing is to get the treatment you need.
As others have mentioned, there may be some resources available to help you cover some of your living expenses.

I knew 2 people who killed their friend in a car wreck and managed to make a gofundme that doesn't mention their friend they killed off their asses on mdma - only how much physical trauma it caused the girl... They made 50,000$ off it. Though one of them is going to go to prison for manslaughter thank god

yeah man, i know how to play the tuba:) (and baritone) I was 2nd chair tuba all valley in middle school and 6th chair tuba all valley in high school. I honeslty miss bad so much. i wish i would have stayed in it my jr and senior year:/ goood times lol. and as to profit off of playing the tuba? i wouldnt know about that man:/ im extreamly anti social now. Its hard for me to even go to a grocery store. I REALLY enjoyed studying medicine when i was in high school. took 4 years of it, failed my 4th year. I was thinking of studing to be a Registered Nurse but shit happens:/ I was thinking of seeing a psychiatrist before going into college. I feel as though talking about my problems to someone i could trust would be a hugee weight off my shoulder. that along side taking some medication and see how it goes.

Well, from this perspective - what do you truly have to lose by going against your sense of discomfort around people? You have absolutely nothing to lose going out there with a fucking tuba and playing your ass off on the street, and a lot to gain!... I for one would probably be overjoyed to hear some random Tuba in the city, and would definitely donate if it was as good as I'm sure you are, so others would to
It will boost your confidence a lot and really feel a lot better if you earn your money!
With people, and being anti-social... I feel like busking would be a nice way to get you comfortable around people again.. something interesting that would have people interested in talking to you, instead of pressuring you to make conversation with them, smooth you into it again You've been plenty social before, it'll come back easily once you stop fighting yourself
And definitely keep studying! Don't discourage yourself by saying you can't remember things... if you enjoy it - do it... I think your memory will be happy to oblige

Its not so much that they think im fine, they know theres something wrong with me. They see it every day. Or more often when i have my episodes. Yeah my doctor prescribed me several meds but none of them actually worked. and i think thats what frustrated my mom. The fact that she had to pay for the visits aand the meds was pissing her off. She just wanted for me to stick with one med. Which of course i wasnt just gonna take something that didnt work. I wanted/want to get better. As to my parents isolating me? Its more my mom than dad. My dad supports me as much as he can honestly. Exept hes from mexico and his customs are a bit different than i would want them to be. Hes more of a "walk it off" type of guy. He thinks that diet, exercise, and Jesus can save me lol which im a 100% on board with the diet and exercise part. Exept its really hard for me to get something going. this one time, one of my "episodes" was so bad that i asked my dad to send me to a psychiatric hospital. He told me he would but ended up just talking me out of it.

I read up on that a while back and there are two types of support schizophrenics get. One is where you would have had to work for a year or two (i believe) before they start helping you out financially. And the other one is where they help you by paying for your meds. Which i should actually be signing up for but i had completely forgotten about it since a year ago i didnt want to take any meds.
that honestly sucks for your friend and her brother. Thank God theyre getting help from the government though:)

Likely you would need a job though to qualify, even just one hour a week

find some stuff to train your brain like mental exercise's, music, sports
high school makes the average person dumber then rocks it leaves you with virtually no skills besides being able to rush through a reading
schizophrenia is a symptom of something less clear it's not a mental disorder something in your brain is putting extra DNA strands and spazzing out the voices would be a consequence of an over wired brain did you notice you had it after consuming something meth related? otherwise it's most likely just symptoms

It comes in the form of a flat cash amount... I believe approx 2,000$ a month? He doesn't work. He doesn't take meds, or go to psychs - he has been schizo for so long he has acclimated to his condition and doesn't really attempt to manage it in any way.

Alright, man, I know it seems like you need income THEN treatment. Trust me, I know the feeling. But you need treatment before you'll be able to succeed to any significant degree. Go to your parents and sincerely ask them if they will pay for the treatment of your condition. If they won't, hit the internet and find resources that will help you. They exist. Securing treatment should be your #1 priority.

I hate people that bring up medication, most of the effects of medication actually are what the main population thinks the disease is itself lol

I used to take some meds but none of them helped:/ i only took one antipsychotic med back in the day for several months but it made me feel really shittyyyy, tired, couldnt focus (i couldnt focus to begin with it just made my concentration worst), and a bunch of weight gain:''/ im 6'5 320lb so weights an issue for me:/ lol but aside from that, I actually want to try to take some meds along side psychotherapy now. Things got too out of hand and recently wanted to try this whole "western medicine" again lol

I'm not a fan of throwing pills at people and making them zombies, but to say fuck medicine in general is absurd.
If medications can help this person function in every day life, then power to em.
