Hey guys, I'm fairly new to the field of Mycology and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as far as books go that could help me become better with identifying mushrooms? I've already got a copy of Mushrooms Demystified. Also any advice in general that you think could help me out would be appreciated. I live in Southeastern US. Thanks!

Your location is really important for choosing books for identification.
Given the location that your IP address is registered in, I am going to recommend http://www.amazon.com/Mushrooms-Southeastern-United-States-Bessette/dp/081563112X for you.
It is $60 or so, but worth every penny.

Thank you. I was actually planning on getting that book sometime soon! It's good to hear someone recommend it. Also sorry for not mentioning my location, and yes, I do live in the southeast. I'll add it to the original post.

I use The National Audubon Society's Field guide to North American Mushroom Hunting.
It has in color detailed photos, descriptions, environments, edibility, psycho activity, along with microscopy details (if applicable). It is a good book for people new to the Mushroom hunting world.
It was my first book, pocket-size field guide. It cost $23.50 brand new. I also got the field guide to edible plants for NA at discount price $9.90
If im not mistaken, Mushrooms Demystified is a pretty hefty haul to take out into the field. I remember my hunting partner got that 1, and I got the N.A field guide, and he had to carry his in his backpack at 10-15lbs.

The Audubon guide is 30 years old though, and it is kind of annoying how the color photos are not with the descriptions. Also the common names are silly - the publisher demanded that all mushrooms had common names, so they went to a bar and got really drunk and gave them all common names.
It is not a bad book for the east coast, but Gary is still around, not sure why he doesn't update it.
MD is awesome but it does not focus on southeast stuff since he lived in Santa Cruz, California when he wrote it.
http://mushroomexpert.com is better than any book though, at least for the USA, so no reason to spend money unless you like the feel of paper.
