Cactus ID?

This look like San Pedro to me but something about it is making me doubt if it really is. Someone is giving a bunch of cactus away on Craig's list as long as you dig it up.

It looks too bumpy to be san pedro, but then some spots looks like it could possibly be. But if I could see a nicer and closer picture then I could definitely tell you.

Sure it's bumpy, and the overall shape of the bush reminds me Myrtillocactus, but i think it's Pachanoi

I'm stopping by tomorrow for some of the other cacti anyways so I'll grab some cuttings and get better pics. I should be able to come back for more if it is san pedro.

Yeah I thought about renting a truck but I want to be certain its San Pedro before I put that much time and money into cutting down something that big.
It should have bloomed recently so I may ask around if it had large white flowers or something else. After looking at some picture it does have a bit of a Myrtillocactus vibe though.

That yard has a nice ferrocactus and created opuntia microdaisy.
That San Pedro looks a lot like myrtlitocactus, but I'm 99% sure that its not . It has a unique growth habit.

Yeah, I'll be grabbing some cuttings of the opuntia. I'll see how a feel about the ferrocactus when I get there, not sure how much time energy I want to spend digging it out.

Be careful and use something like a tong , or cardboard to keep your hands from touching the oputnia because the barbs are hard to remove. The wine can also blow spines away from the opuntia.
I imagine the ferrocafrua has a shallow root system , but only one way to find out.

The giveway is the branching habit, sideways and up high on the plant - I say it Myrtillocactus geometrizans. A beautiful plant that will give you lots of myrtle like fruits and ample supply of grafting stock.
(the other one is a Cleistocactus, probably C. straussii)

So, it was a Myrtillocactus. It still had a few flower on it which made it clear it wasn't San Pedro. I grabbed a few cuttings

Yeah it ended up being pretty shallow so wasn't too hard to dig out. Luckily I got there first since there was others interested in it.
They also had stuff in the back yard so I grabbed a few.

Yeah, they're San pedro. Some still had flower buds on them. There was a lot, I didn't even take them all. Some other guy came a little after me and started hacking away at the rest. There was a couple columns that were ~12ft.

Yeah, I was going to come back on the weekend with a truck so I could get the rest but then some other guy shows up and goes straight for all the San Pedro. Man, I'm glad I didn't decide to wait to go there.

Imagine Stupendous-Yappi catching every column as it fell down. Ouch Ouch , like 15 times lol. good catch , did you get a chance to see what color the flower buds were ?
Let us know how updating your yard with cacti - succulents goes . Glad to see you got the ferrocactus , how did you pick it up?
Tie a rope around it , or wrap it inside a tarp . Haha idk
I think most of the Mexi-American globulars have shallow root systems because I put a large gymnocalcium in a big ass pot thinking"big cactus = big pot" but the roots were only 4-5 inches deep.
I think the reason Sauguaros grow so slow is because they've got shallow root systems.

Not at all, there are plants with thick and/or deep roots through all of the natural range of cacti. Just think Lophophora (and there are plenty more!).
