Salvia divinorum, grow tips and training the plant.

Here's my 2-3 month old Sally grown from seed, the lone survivor from 10 seeds. She's been doing well in the sill of my window and I'm getting eager to train her. Judging by what I've seen and read, these plants can take quite the beating after they are established and aged, but they're very delicate as youngin's. When do you think that it is safe to try to train her with cutting?

I'm not an expert on s. divinorum, but I'd let that plant grow for a bit before pinching it.

Still needs to grow a while before pinching it, I think. I'd say at least let it go till it it 8-10 inches tall before doing anything. Sally will put out branches from nodes that already have a leaf on it. Don't feel like there's TOO much of a rush to pinch.

So is it just me...? I've grown a lot of salvia plants over the years and seen a lot of pictures online and never seen one with those hairs on the leaves. Although, I've never grown one from seed, so maybe it's a young thing? But then again, there was a poster recently who had a couple young plants grown from seed and I don't recall seeing hairs like that.
I'm wondering where the op got the seeds from? Either it's potentially an interesting mutation in his/hers seedling or maybe it's not divinorum? Everything else about the plant looks divinorum to me... But those hairs are not normal.
Edit: looking closer I'm going to go out on a limb and say this isn't a divinorum plant. Op, did you get the seeds froma reliable source? Divinorum seeds are really rare and I think this is a look alike.

I most certainly got them from what I thought was a VERY reliable source, although that's not saying a whole bunch in this field. A quick search brought up this from the annals of botony, Oxford journals. their seedlings seem to have developing trichromatic hairs. It also says that these are only present on the very first few sets of true leaves. I guess you'll only see them right after they sprout, probably not with cuttings.

Yep, true.
Some pics of blosser seedlings, which I'm 99% sure are the same genetics as OP, which btw congrats on the seedling, looking good!

I'm 99.9% sure that you're right (does that give it a 99.45% chance of being correct? lol), and thank you!

Its amazing how much these plants stretch away from the light when very small (or even die VERY QUICKLY with too much light), then all of a sudden one day start bending toward it.

How often are you watering it? It looks like that pot was soaked. And those trichomes are impressive!

I just mist it daily, which i did right before those pictures because i was bringing her into the sun for better detail. Sometimes I spray between the leaves a bunch of times gently right down the stalk, so I guess that could be considered "watering." When it looks like the leaf tips are going to turn brown at the tips i'll lay off the misting for a day or two.
The trichromes seem to be slightly bending today instead of standing straight up. I'm wondering if they are fading away.
I've never used or experienced salvia (however, i'm very experienced in other substances), so this plant will take that virginity from me when shes old enough.

If you're misting it daily don't stop until you're completely sure it won't harm the plant. Even the little of changes can stress it out.

Call me crazy if you want (and no, I don't have pics to back it up), but I've seen trichromes on some of my plants' leaves before. They are usually very tiny and don't last long, compared to the lifetime of the leaf, but they are definitely present. I'll have to get a pic next time I notice them. I always assumed everybody's plants had them...

Lol, I'd love to see the pics though.

I'll take some pics next time I notice them. IDK if you read, but I'm currently recovering from a sally 'crisis'... All my plants ended up taking a nosedive over the summer because I let em get too hot and too much direct sun
Now I'm down to only the clones I made a couple weeks before. They are doing well now, but still pretty small.

Damn that sucks man, how are they doing now? This is why Ive kept mine in my mini greenhouse, it gets only an hour or two of filtered light in the morning. I decided to grow mine like in their natural habitat, high humidity and not so much light. Once it starts getting too cold though they're going into the grow tent with 400w MH, and I'll keep her misted daily.

I have noticed them too. Especially on new, smaller leaves. This kind of makes me wonder if the trichomes contain a dense source of salvinorin a/b as myself and a friend noticed an incredible relaxing feeling on a single younger, newer leaves(between 1 and 2 inches) compared to one large leaf(over 4 inches). I don't know why but it seems like the smaller the leaf the more potent it is.
I don't know about the tripping aspect, but this was all done for the instant muscle relaxing effect.

I'm not in the right mindset to look right now, but I believe there is information on that link I posted above (the full version of the paper) regarding salvinorin A being high in concentration within the trichromes. I could be wrong though.

Taken directly from the link I posted from the Oxford journals:
• Conclusions Salvinorin A and related compounds are secreted as components of a complex resin that accumulates in the subcuticular space of peltate glandular trichomes.
