Will a tub incubator work if....
    #2226941 - 01/07/04 10:20 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Will an incubator modeled after the incubator in the PF-Tek for Simple Minds work if the top tub just floats on the water, because the contents are not enough to submerge it 2/3 the way into the water, or would it be a more effective incubator if rope is tied forcing the top tub to become 2/3 the way submerged in the water? The temperature within the incubator was constantly 82-85 F for several weeks, until recently it dropped to 74-78 F.

ive seen pictures where holes are drilled in the side lips of the tubs and then zip tied together to keep the top one held down instead of floating

Just punch or drill holes, I think weatherstripping would help seal the lid and tubs together, more efficient, Make shure to put holes on the top to allow excess humidity levels. unless thats what you want. a good tank pump w/ some bubble wands should take care of air exchange and other things.

Yeah the zip ties are very effective

I guess not understanding the question did not discourage you from providing an (incorrect) answer.

The idea is that you use the same size container and they must fit snuggly. You don't really need all that water (or a water pump for that matter), but it helps to keep the temp consistant. I had the reverse problem. I had to put some small bowls in the water to keep the bottom of the second container from resting directly on the aquarium heater.

Life is just full of problems, God Dammit!
