hi all. im just wondering do I have to use bottled water for spore rehydration? or can I just boil tap water? maybe the chlorine in tap water might affect it, but its in a minute amount so I hope it will be ok. also do I have to wait a full 24 hours ?? or can this time be cut down somewhat. I figure If I just innoculate, they should finish rehydrating in the jar, but I'll wait for someones reply, just in case. p.s. can I use sterilized potting soil to case??? iit contains composted wood and bark, canadian sphagnum, peat, and pumice, if I use it I will probably add egg shells too. any thoughts? thanx... iggy

I personally see no reason you couldnt use tap water, probally boil and cool to be safe though. My freind always uses tap in the pf jars, and in a way its same thing since their using that water to survive.
I think I heard 8 or 16 hours for rehydration, to be safe you might as well give it the full 24 though. Your better off to give them enough time, then not enough and lose the week or so you waited to see growth.

Yes, wait a day. I use bottled water, I grew up drinking good well water with no chlorine and I cant stand to drink this city water crap, so I also cant bring myself to feed it to my shrooms. Prolly wont hurt much, but whats a gallon jug of water cost? Like 53 cents?

tap water it is. ive been drinking it for 20 years and I'm no mutant. I boiled it for an hour just to be safe and then cooled. spores are rehydrating as we speak. innoculation will begin tommorow. jars are already pressure cooked substrate is 50/50 corn/millet anyone tried brazil strain??? does anything set it apart from other strains? (ie: fast colonizer, contam resistant, repeated flusher) any info would be appreciated.
thanx for replying fickduck and eyepain... iggy
