shitcakes recipe?

i am looking at recipes for pf cakes with manure like this one:
5 cups vermiculite 3 cups manure 10 tblspns BRF 1.5 - 1.75 cups water
from: http://www.shroomery.org/8418/How-do-I-cultivate-Panaeolus-cyanescens and several like it.
that seems like a very low amount of water, are they talking about fresh manure? if so how do i convert for dried (cow) manure?

It's dried manure...you don't want a "wet" mixture...you want a mixture that is at field capacity. A slightly dryer mix is loads better than an overly wet mix.

mmm i have these compressed pellets that i assumed would be the same as regular flakes after grinding them. but after some testing it seems a pf equivilent 2-1-1 mix yields a much dryer cake then my regular pf cakes. maybe the stuff i have is different,
if i just keep the proportions of the dry materials in the recipe and add water 'by feel' till it passes the squeeze test like in this video: http://www.mushroomvideos.com/Casing-Layer-Preparation i should be ok right?

Just curious, do manure cakes need to be pced, or can they be steamed? Don't know how I haven't heard of this tbh

If you have a good source of composted manure, it is usually seasoned and basically pasteurized at 140-160F naturally. Manure doesn't need to be PC'ed at all, even though I re-pasteurize before using.

I prefer 2.5/2.5/2.5/2.45. That half teaspoon of water really made a difference

yeah i'm still gonna keep an eye on that. i feel that with moisture content it's often a matter trial and error.
