First Grow - Already Fruiting
    #22265965 - 09/20/15 05:08 PM (8 years, 4 months ago)

Good afternoon, I have been lurking for years and finally have started my own grow.

A little background:
  • 50+ Mushroom 'trips'.
  • Pretty much every other drug or intoxicant you can name (and some you probably cannot).
  • Access to lab-grade equipment.
  • Degree in pharmacology.

I do not have much to say about this grow, thus far I have not expireenceed any contamination or anything with any of my cakes, I am using a small HEPA air pump on a 1hr on/2hr off cycle for FAE.
This grow is 3 days into fruiting.
Well, lets get to it:

(Columbian strain)

PICS:

How do they look? Using a normal florescent light mounted ~48 above lid of grow chamber (all isolated inside a larger container, no outside air.). The light is on a 12/12 cycle.

Looking for any feedback I can get.

A few questions:
Do the mushrooms normally grow with such abnormal stems? (kinda wiggly-like)

Should I be keeping my pearlite specifically wet or will normal misting do?

I mist 3 or 4 times daily, is that alright?

Thank you!

They look dry and lacking FAE, everyone will recommend a shotgun fruiting chamber  http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/20195542#20195542 no need for a hepa filter, humidifier or pumps of any kind. Mycelium of fully colonized cakes is strong and contamination resistant, and they encounter millions of contaminates as soon as you birth them. Also a 24 hour dunk after birthing then rolled in dry vermiculite. That being said congrats on your first fruits and welcome to the Shroomery

ok so first I did a mixture of rice and quinoa with flax and vermiculite.  I realized I didn't allow it to dry and it had way too much water so 12 jars pretty much wasted. I then used rye berries and the Myc has started but its been over a week and Its really slow going.  I used a reptilian warmer underneath a plastic container and at first the temp I kept at 86-90 then accidentally i guess raised the temp and it was at 105 when I caught it and dropped it down, its back to 86.  I have 4 jars that are really slow going.  is it the temp? do I need more air because I have it in a closed dark plastic container?  then how white does it have to get?  how much do I need to transfer to new jars if I want to use this batch to extend to new jars?  and then, what kind of casing should I use?

Never use a warmer, room temp throughout the grow. If you are comfortable your mushrooms are too.

Let your jars colonize in ambient light at room temp 65-75 degrees 83 is the max or your just going to make it more favorable for contams. During colonization you just want gas exchange. Fresh air exchange you will need for fruiting conditions.

i think the only thing growing mushrooms is going to do for me is either improve my patience or blow it up like a bomb and I will never be patient again

If you're doing G2G and have a healthy 1qt jar of grain it can colonize several jars. As for a casing layer I use Jiffy's organic seed starter mix found at Home Depot. Just moisten to field capacity and pasteurize for 60-90 mins at 140-160f.

Thank you, I'll try turning my air exchange unit to 1/1 and see how that works. It's just that the area I am normally working is in not exactly what i would call sterile.

Thank you

My advice is harvest the ones that are there, dunk for 24 roll in dry verm and build a proper SGFC. You could still get a decent second flush. Don't worry about being sterile at this point.
