My first "real" cake
    #22265405 - 09/20/15 03:01 PM (8 years, 4 months ago)

I was wondering at first why my pin wasn't getting much larger, but then a bunch more started popping up.
I was so amazed with a casing layer that I tried to get that part I missed. Did I goof?
Will that stall the pins I have already?
I'm going to give it a bit to colonize the vermiculite and then dunk it again

I birthed it about a week ago because it started pinning in the jar

Would you say that 72F is too cold for mushrooms to thrive? I'm considering bringing them indoors, but I'm not allowed to touch the thermostat

I've been keeping them outdoors because it was nice and warm, but the nights are getting colder and it's stunting my growth. Unless more pins are developing and I just don't see them..

If I were to move them indoors at night and move them back outdoors in the day, is the constant temperature changing going to put it into shock and/or stale it? It's not like nature isn't already doing that, but it does it more gradually...

Should I just keep doing what I'm doing? Leave it outdoors? The cold nights may make them denser?

Is direct sunlight bad? I figured the fall season would deliver a warm spectrum light, which might not hurt it. I keep it in the shade most of the day, but it gets the sun's rays for at least 30 minutes a day.

I've dunked the cake twice within a week, how often can you submerge it without killing it, or putting it into shock?

Up to ten pins that I can identify by eye.

Nah, but if I dunk the cake for 4-8 hours every 48 hours until I can see the veil developing, what potential damage could be done, if any?

waterlogging the cake, for one.

Which would be way worse than it being a little dry, you can just
mist a little more heavily between dunks instead of dunking it that
much.

They look sad

You look sad, with your 4 shrooms

They're producing new pins constantly, which is why I want to dunk again, for larger growth. I was thinking of warming the water to like 75F, as I generally dunk it tap water (60ish degrees?) overnight, which makes it gradually colder and then I put them back in the fruiting chamber when wake up.

That has to be the most tooly thing I have ever read on here

General ratings don't mean shit dude. It's all about trade ratings.
1 guy gets upset because you say something truthful and leave you
a bad rating, how is that sad?

I'm just saying, dunking them too much will waterlog your cake, if
you don't believe me, why don't you  go look up an RR quote about it, since
my opinion isn't good enough.

Or you could just do your own research. I know what is true and what
isn't, if you are skeptical of my opinion, then go look it up yourself

I use bad keywords, and people generally post some really legit links. I theorize they have an archive of links in a directory some place.
