What did I do wrong?
    #22264541 - 09/20/15 12:11 PM (8 years, 4 months ago)

I spawned this Orissa India mini mono 8/29 to c/v/g brought to field capacity and pasteurized, cased it 9/9 with pasteurized Jiffy Mix and fruited 9/13. 3 quarts spawn to 6 quarts sub.

This was my first time casing anything and with my 27 quart mini mono, it appeared I only needed to use 2/3 of the 1 quart jar of casing. I followed this casing tek. From my understanding, you want to have a thin layer for casing so I made it as thin and even as possible. I was hoping to wait until the mycelium was poking out of the casing about 20% but it began pinning before then. The mycelium has not colonized any more of the casing.

My question is, why are my fruits so small? They get to about 1 inch then they are ready to pick. This was taken from a clone a few months ago however the clone was bigger than these little guys. My substrate was a bit over saturated with 4.5 quarts of water so I added in extra verm to bring it to capacity. The fruits started to get fuzzy feet with the normal bottom holes stuffed tight, top holes loose. I read somewhere that one user completely removed the polyfil from a top hole to increase fae so I did that as well.

Is it just genetics? Too much water or not enough in the substrate? Too little fae? Messed up casing? I just want to know how to improve for next time.

u got nice healthy fruits.  ur picking them at a perfect time.  no signs of contamination.
u did everything right IMO.

just luck of the draw with the clone.  some clones are awesome, some are not.

other than that, maybe try deeper substrate, and maybe more humidity during pin formation/first few days into fruiting, so u get larger pin set, but could just be nature of the clone

They are short but they are fat too. If blueing is any indication, they look very potent to me. Well, see what they do for you before you put them down.

Maybe you can report on this thread after you trip with them.

I'm not worried about their potency. I have a very low tolerance so I'm sure they are fine :aweyeah:

I just wanted to know why they were short lol. However, now I know that keeping the humidity high during pinning will help with my pinset because I've been trying to figure out how to get wall to wall flushes for months now. I'll also add a few more quarts of sub to future grows.

I suggested that you post your trip results, not because I'm worried about your worry, but so that you might make some experience-based contribution to the vexed discussion as to whether blueing is in fact a kind of positive forecast of potency or is actually of no significance other than as an index of oxidation rate. The suggestion is that you act in the interest of science.
