From what I understand most people gain weight when they quit smoking. It has to do with oral gratification. They substitute food for the cig.

I'm neither. But I used to smoke, I was a bit of a twig then, but not from cigarettes, I just didn't eat much then, my thyroid was overactive(now it's totally useless, but medicated and I gained enough weight to put me in the normal weight range, but I'd like to get super svelte again, but fitter this time around).
I was broke, and didn't really grasp the concept of grocery shopping or planning/budgeting/lists in general, and didn't really care to. My cupboards contained potatoes, oatmeal, peanut butter, and bread. I was taking amphetamines everyday to keep up with how busy I was between school and working at a bar till 3am - still have an rx, but I take them twice a week max on my 'organize your life' days and started forcing myself to eat and drink protein shakes if I couldn't, now I have a pretty normal appetite on uppers, maybe a bit less. Knew I was wasting money on cigarettes, weed, random impulse purchases, didn't really care that I had to pay for it by semi-starving. It was 'bohemian' to me at the time.
I only smoked for two years or so, started as a social thing, moved to a ritual where I'd sit out on my covered porch late at night and read and chainsmoke, and then it tapered back into a social thing when I drank, and now I can't stomach the thought of a cigarette. I 'quit' many times, and failed. It's just apart of the process, after many times of failing quitting eventually became effortless because I tapered.
I was just at the store and there was a lady who absolutely reeked of cigarettes, I could smell her from down the aisle. It's not attractive or pleasant.

I actually kind of enjoy the scent. Not the "I just smoked a pack and wreak of an ashtray" scent. But when it's very light...
I don't know, it's weird.

Me too, within reason. I like the smell of just lit cigarettes, and I've dated guys who've smoked before I ever did, and after I quit, and you could only smell if just after they smoked and if you came close enough to hug/kiss, and I never noticed terribly bad breath from it - though most smokers carry mint/gum with them constantly IME.
But the smell of 1000 stale cigarettes blowing in the wind is not one I enjoy.

Smoking makes your food taste like cigarettes momentarily, in the same way brushing your teeth before eating or drinking does.
nicotine releases dopamine which may curb hunger mildly - but that's pretty short lived unless you're a once-in-a-while smoker.
honestly, you're just better getting a supplement that contains L-dopa. I'm on welbutrin for depression(which is prescribed short term to help people quit cigs) and one of the things it does is light a tiny fire under your dopamine receptors ass(not nearly to the extent that recreational drugs do or anything) and it curbs a lot of habit seeking behavior. They use it for coke addicts too. However, there are otc supplements with L-dopa, but I haven't done any research on what. Nicotine is also considered a nootropic and you can get it in healthier forms.

I hate seeing an attractive girl smoking cigarettes. That's an immediate turnoff. Would not date a cigarette addicted girl. Gross.

I'm neutral, I would still date someone who smoked cigs, but if I was in it for the long haul, I would start getting concerned if they continued to smoke heavily as they got older and would encourage them to quit or at least try and curb it to once in a while. It also wouldn't be attractive if it impeded their ability to do active things without having to stop to catch their breath.
I used to think hot guys smoking cigarettes made them seem edgy and hot when I was 18-20, now it's just a 'whatever' kind of thing, gets less attractive as I get older. Sometimes I miss the whole ritualistic aspect of going outside and collecting your thoughts, and having something to do with your hands. I still go outside and chill with the smokers at times at parties because a fair bit of my friends are social smokers, and I just enjoy being outside and having drunken talks, the conversation is just better out there.

does it really affect fertility long term? I know smoking while pregnant is horrible and makes me think of white trash mainly - though I've also heard if you smoke heavily prior to pregnancy, some doctors advise against completely quitting while pregnant, cuz the withdrawals will stress the fetus, but in that case I would think nicotine patches or supplementation of some kind would be a much better option.

While I don't like people who tell others what to do with their life, I think that people who don't want to be exposed to harmful chemicals have every right to bitch if a smoker is being rude.
When I smoked I tried to be as courteous as possible, threw out my butts, didn't smoke upwind from others, and whenever I passed parents and little kids walking down the street, I felt oddly obligated to keep the cigarette as far out of sight as possible, and if I was in the proximity of kids beyond just passing by, I just didn't smoke at all. I just don't think it's right to subject kids to second hand smoke, and since kids look up to adults and imitate, I didn't want to be the one that planted that idea in any kid's head at all.
Those anti smoking commercials though? I fucking hate those. They're getting more and more obnoxious.
