First Grow (PF Tek)

Hey everyone,
This is my first post on shroomery and also my first cultivation. I'm super stoked on this whole process, so far and I would like to thank shroomery and its members for creating such an excellent resource of information on this addicting hobby.
I am just wondering how I am doing so far so I attached alot of photos minus where they are incubating. I have a total of 11 jars of PC Classic (8 jars) and PC Puerto Rican (3 jars). I have them incubating in my closet with a small heater that turns on for a little bit once the temperature drops below 70 to 73 degrees.
Let me know how I'm doing and I'll periodically update with new photos and progress reports along the way! UPDATE: not spawning to coir, I believe it's best to go through a PF tek all the way through and then if it goes well I will move to bulk substrate.

You dont want attached gloved on your still air box. Detach the gloves. Also throw the mid away and flip it over. Use a flat table as the bottom.
Using a heater in a closet is no1 noob mistake. It's bad for jars. If you can't maintain 65f run heat for a whole room and have the jars far away from the heater. The most ideal is an oil filled radiator type space heater.

Thanks Bodhisatta! Ahh okay, having the attached gloves and lids isn't going to cause any damage is it? That's no problem I didn't necessarily have the heater that close to the jars really, they are in a box with any open top to allow air exchange. But, I moved the heater out into my room.

No but attacked gloves creates suction and air currents and completely defeats the purpose of using the box for clean inoculation. A good place for jars is on a shelf. As long as the heater isn't blowing on of near the jars its fine.
Look up "still air box" click the trusted cultivator box and the has images button and you'll find some great info

That makes sense good sense. I'll take a look at that guide for an SAB very soon. Yep, I have the jars on shelf far from the ground, not too close to the ceiling. The temperature is 72 to 77 degrees i'd say.

Yeah, that's what i do. Just use the table surface with the box upside down.

Looks like I may have spotted an early contam on two of my jars. I have a bit of black where I injected the syringe into the jars. I don't know if it is a bit of residue from flaming syringe or if it is contaminated I'll post a pic tomorrow.

Majority of my jars have now germinated and no contams so far besides the one that looks a bit sketchy with spot of black. I separated that jar from the bunch. So far so good!

Edit your post and remove the name of the vendor, it is against the rules, http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/14960167 spores are sold for viewing under a microscope only. Other than that welcome to the Shroomery, looking forward to seeing your progress, good luck!

It's about time for fruiting for 4 of my cakes, they have been 100% colonized since about last week so I plan to move into fruit tuesday or wednesday. As for my other jars, they are coming along just took a bit longer for initial colonization. I plan to move to liquid culture to bypass the time needed for the spores to reach optimal conditions before that initial mycelium growth. I ended up losing 2 jars to contams I realized were due to an error in inoculation, but you live and learn. I am going to build a Shotgun fruiting chamber tomorrow. I will post pics that day and keep everyone posted. Shroomery is the scientific journal of mushroom cultivation undoubtedly I appreciate everyone who has posted teks and gave advice so far.

Making a LC so your cakes go faster is like walking to the gas station getting a gas can filling it walking home just to save time going to the gas station.
If you're going to make a LC from spores good luck, LC is made from agar wedge inoculation otherwise you're corner cutting.
If you just have LC around that's faster sure.

I was going to make the LC in advance for my next cakes I make Bodhisatta. I'm not really in a big hurry like many new growers. I know very well this is a hobby of patience.

It's finally time to see a bit of reward after waiting!! I moved the first two consolidated cakes into fruiting tonight (SGFC). Anyone have tips or suggestions on the setup and process from here on out?

Looks good man! Only thing is that the tub is a little too close to the wall, it'll restrict airflow on those sides. Try to move it at least 5 feet away from the walls and your tub will be able to function properly.

Alright, awesome thanks Soulful! I appreciate the feedback, don't think I could have even gotten this far without shroomery and the community here.

Might want to add a bit more perlite to that SGFC as well, you want a minimum of 4 inches.

Okay will do within the next couple of days, that's all I had haha! I'll snag another bag and post a new pic soon thanks for the advice gang! Is it best for the perlite to be completely level or best to be set up with slight hills and troughs for evaporation or is it just arbitrary and doesn't matter haha
