In the forest yesterday
    #22263423 - 09/20/15 03:41 AM (8 years, 4 months ago)

Some pictures...

Agaricus sp -

Macrolepiota procera -

Xylaria hypoxylon -

Cute little Mycena -

Oudemansiella mucida -

Amanita rubescens -

Possibly Tyromyces chioneus -

Coprinellus micaceus -

Laccaria amethystina -

Lactarius species -

Coprinellus micaceus and Laccaria amethystina -

Russula species -

I convinced myself at the time, this was an Amanita, but now I look at it I'm not sure why I jumped to that conclusion. I didn't check for a volva -

Yesterday i found an absolute sea of M. procera. I'm used to finding it around the area i was in anyway but i found one particular micro environment where there were groups around nearly every tree. 100's. And even more Amanita rubescens than that (different area). Tripping over them. They absolutely love Birch. That and A. muscaria. A. rubescens is abundant every year but this year especially so.

I only found the one M. procera yesterday but I'm expecting more in the coming weeks. I've not had the guts to try eating Amanita rubescens, but I'd not have gone hungry if I did.

Yeah i was going to type that I've never tried them. I've seen so many that i have no trouble ID'ing them but it just doesn't seem worth the risk. Especially if you consider that you have to boil off the toxins first. I'd much rather do the same but with A. muscaria which I'd be 100% sure about every time. I've noticed that with M. procera, where you find one, there are usually many somewhere else near by. But they can be very widely spread.

Yes, I find them in the same general area, but like you say, not in clusters usually.
