Ah fuck me why didn't I think of that. It would have to be weighted down, but that would be way easier than what I have been doing, which is using a stock pot with a bowl full of water on top (which I spill all the time because I have to fill the bowl almost completely to weight down the very buoyant cakes). I even have one of those that would work perfectly. Lol
I bought cheap cylindrical shaped containers with screw on lids, if you put the right amount of water, and are quick you can fully submerge cakes for dunking without spilling much water. I used to wrap them with foil so I could leave them on my counter and no one knew what they were.

Yeah, I started with 17 cakes (18 actually but lost one to the green)
That doesn't really seem practical for that many.

Yes the pins did indeed form in the jars, and I rolled the cakes in vermiculite after they were dunked for twelve hours, I waited about 45 minutes before misting the freshly rolled cake.
Just out of curiosity, does anybody have a preferred grain they like to use for bulk?

I meant to say that I dunked the cakes for 24 hours. My bad. I also just realized the functionality of the "edit" button haha. Thanks for all the support, I'll update more tomorrow

I've used WBS almost exclusively, it works great and provides a mix instead of one grain, its not too hard to prep when you get the hang of it, but it does get freaking everywhere and I had to buy special $15 strainers. If you go with WBS almost any will work, but stay away from any with corn in it. I recommend Pennington Finch seed or regular Pennington WIld Bird Formula, the finch kind has mostly millet and very few seeds. You don't have to take out sunflower seeds, but I usually do anyway. I hear alot of great things about Whole Oats, that's what I'm about to try next. Whole Oats are cheap, and supposed to be very forgiving. WBS is found everywhere, I get mine at Walmart, Whole Oats, at Feed stores, make sure they are whole (still have the hulls) they are sometimes called "Groats" I think they are used as horse feed.

Thank you!!
So all 6 of my pint sized cakes (no pun intended) are currently in the fruiting chamber. The 3 that were birthed about a week before the others, and had to be re-dunked do to lack of moisture are looking great! I noticed a good amount pins along the base of two of them. The other 3 that were placed inside the fruiting chamber yesterday are looking good as well, they had visible pins at birth, and one of the cakes is growing 2 smaller sized mushrooms. The temperature has been kept around 77F, I've continued periodic misting, and allowed the mycelium to revive at least 6 hours of ambient light per day.
With my left over Bang Phang Ka spores (4cc), I inoculated 8 jars of prepared popcorn substrate around 4 days ago, and was surprised to see mycelium growth this morning, I'll make a separate thread regarding this popcorn casing grow as soon as I have some fully colonized jars

Great news, each cake is having superb pin development and one cake is almost ready for it's first mushrooms to be harvested. How do I know when a flush is over?

you will know when a flush is over when you feel like tossing the cakes. You can probably get 5 flushes but their will be very small amounts of mushrooms coming to fruition. Usually people toss them and start more after the 3rd flush.

Looking good! I think those shrooms have got some growth potential before you pick them, another couple of days perhaps. My cakes took 14-18 days in the sgfc before the cakes really hit their stride with multiple pins, more of an explosion actually
