First Mushroom Grow PF tek (pics to come)
    #22261711 - 09/19/15 07:32 PM (8 years, 4 months ago)

I inoculated 6 pint jars with Psilocybe Cubensis (bang phang ka strain) using the BRF pf tek method, 21 days ago. 3 of the 6 jars were fully colonized one week ago, I let them sit until today and they are currently being dunked. The other 3 have yet to colonize fully, there is about a nickel sized piece of substrate left on each of them, so I'm still waiting on those. I will upload pics later tonight. I Completed my fruiting chamber today, and I am very excited to fruit mushrooms for my first time ever!!!!!! I will remove the 3 cakes from the dunk at 12pm tomorrow and roll them in vermiculite.  Does anyone know how much to yield off each cake if the climate is optimal?

:greatjob:  hard to say on yield, varies widely with multi spore, maybe a dry zip more or less. Good luck and welcome to the Shroomery:super:

Heres some pics of cakes, the first set is the 3 that had yet to fully colonize (one turned out to finish up today!! gonna start the week timer), the second set is the fully colonized jars that are being dunked in mason jars (did it to save space), and the last photos are my fruiting chamber, I placed a fan behind the chamber to help with airflow, I will fill the chamber with 5 inches of perlite tomorrow, prior to placing the dunk and rolled cakes inside.

You need way more holes in that chamber 1/4 inch holes 2 inches apart in a grid pattern on ALL 6 sides, elevated and at least a foot away from a wall. The fan will disrupt the natural air flow of a SGFC, rendering your perlite useless. Read this and follow exactly http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/20195542#20195542

Drilling all the holes can be tedious.

You can cut a 2" by 2" square out of cardboard or paper to use as a pilot guide. Simply use a marker and ruler to draw your first set of pilot grid lines onto your container, then use the pilot square. Saves 30 to 60 minutes IME.

Thank you so much for the help! So I took the time to drill more holes, removed the fan and placed the 3 dunk and rolled cakes inside my fruiting chamber on top of 5 inches of moist perlite (separated by aluminum foil). Humidity is at 92% and temperature at 78F. Hoping to see some pins in the next few days!! I was thinking of doing a casing method with the cakes I have yet to fruit, what do you think? Is it worth casing brf cakes?

I've done both and in my experience its better to fruit cakes as cakes. With dunking and rolling you get the moisture advantages of casing without the hassle.

So the 3 cakes have been in the fruiting chamber for 4 days, I have been misting periodically and fanning 4-5 times a day. I noticed a small amount of mycelium beginning to push out at the base of one of the cakes, (pins maybe?) but after picking up the cakes I realized they seemed rather light, and lacking moisture. any suggestions on how to raise humidity in the fruiting chamber? should i re-dunk the cakes? The perlite/misting method was effective at first, but i noticed a definite drop in humidity the last few days. much love !:mushroom2:

IME dunking them could be good for them at this point. I would give it another day or two but if nothing starts pinning, I would definitely give it another dunk. Possibly a little shorter of a dunk though.

I have had this happen to some of my cakes before. I would have them in the chamber and all look pretty healthy and going good and yet nothing happens for some reason. The myc looks healthy and all that but no pins or growth. This happened to me a few times and each time I dunked it and had better results following that dunk.  Could be just me but it could very well help you.

Don't be stressing about humidity in the fruiting chamber too much, just keep it where it matters, on the surface of the sub from misting directly till they glisten, repeat when they are not. Sometimes with multi spore you will have cakes that don't perform so well, nothing you can really do except give the best environment you can. When dunking single cakes I found this to be the easiest way
Fill a container to the top with water sitting in a sink, put the cake in and snap the lid on, good luck bro:thumbup:

Will work just fine, you can also use a plate, just make sure it doesn't shift and the cakes float up, you want them fully submerged for 24

Thank you so much for the help!!

I gave the 3 fruiting cakes an eight hour dunk before placing them back into the chamber, during the dunk I replaced the older perlite with freshly rinsed perlite, (I added about an inch more perlite than I did originally, in hopes to better maintain the humidity of the fruiting chamber). I made sure the fruiting chamber was elevated further, I raised it from around 2 inches to 5 inches. I also purchased a higher end digital thermometer that also displays humidity.

I checked the 3 cakes that were still colonizing in the pint jars and was to pleased to see at least one or two pins on each cake, the biggest baby mushroom is about one inch long. I failed to take photos in my excitement last night, the 3 now pinning cakes, are being dunked and prepared to place in the fruiting chamber. I will post pics when the dunk is complete tonight.

When they are tall like that it sometimes means you need more FAE...did those pins form while in the jar? (Invitro?)... Make sure you have your SGFC away from the wall so you get good airflow, I saw you dunked, no roll? Or did you take pics before you rolled? Either way !!!CONGRATULATIONS!!!
You got fruit bro, that's an accomplishment!!! Keep it up, keep us updated and ask if you need help.:threadmonitor:

Ah fuck me why didn't I think of that.  It would have to be weighted down, but that would be way easier than what I have been doing, which is using a stock pot with a bowl full of water on top (which I spill all the time because I have to fill the bowl almost completely to weight down the very buoyant cakes).

I even have one of those that would work perfectly.  Lol
