In my experience, in colloquial usage "bug" is actually less specific than "insect", though you may be right that technically "bug" is more specific than "insect". I take bug to mean spiders, insects, and other tiny, crawly things.
Op: I don't think it should be illegal. It makes me mad when people kill small animals for a reason, but I think there's plenty of things that are okay to kill, e.g. ticks, venomous spiders, venomous snakes, mosquitoes, and small animals for fishing bait.
What about plants, especially long-lived ones like trees? Some would argue that their lives are more valuable than an insect's. A giant living tree, or even a giant dead one, can do much more good to the world than a single insect can. Are tree lives less valuable than insect lives, simply because one is a plant and the other an animal?

How important is life to you?
1) Kill a spider here, and no one seems to care.
2) If NASA found a living spider on Mars, the whole agency would come to a standstill - every rover would immediately stop moving - and scientist and science buffs from around the world would focus their whole attention and careers on that one, single, Mars spider.
I'm #2. I feel that every life form (except for wasps) should have the right to live out its life in its entirety, naturally.

technically insects and bugs are part of the animal kingdom but for some reason i dont consider them to be
im terrified of spiders, ill avoid them if im outdoors but in my apartment i kill any spider i see - im so scared of them that once i see them, they have to die or they will be in the back of my mind until i do. its so weird cause im terrified of them yet if one is crawling on my arm ill methodically move slowly and do what i have to do to kill it so it doesnt get away
think of bam margera and how scared he is of snakes (if youve ever seen the jackass movies) and thats how i am with spiders - i want them all dead - the only exception is when i have my MJ grows going, if i see a spider in the plants environment ill leave them (as hard as that is) cause id rather them do their work on whatever other bugs are in there naturally
other bugs ill escort outside usually other than mosquitos.....the other night i got a big ass moth in my apartment somehow and cornered and caught it in my hands and let it go outside
now small mammals are a different story - if you are quickly killing a squirrel or rabbit for food thats all good, but torturing a cat or dog or something is super fucked up and the person responsible should definitely be punished

If the animal is cute and furry then you cannot kill it and if it is gross and tiny and an insect you can kill it.
That's how I live my life.

but cute and furry taste so damn good.
@ cowboy person. I thought you were a girl because of my own ignorance of the animal kingdom.

I don't know about bugs... but man hurting things for no good reason always pissed me off. I'm not sure about laws but it certainly shouldn't be socially acceptable to kill snakes just because

idk man, some people have serious phobias of snakes that im sure is very similar to my phobia of spiders and i can relate, i dont agree with killing just because but peoples minds can fuck with their rationality and cause them to think a snake thats 15 feet away is automatically gonna kill them......i know that feeling with spiders - its totally irrational but its like built into the brain....phobias are hard to understand unless you have one

This morning I literally had a giant ass wolf spider jump on me as I was opening the door to take my dog out. I screamed and swatted that bitch to the floor. We then had an alpha-manly stand off thing while I collected my thoughts. After about 2-3 mins I realized this bitch spider knew he wasn't gonna do shit so I grabbed a jar and let the little dude crawl in and took him outside. If he would have squared up though. like he was gonna do something, I wouldn't have hesitated to shoot that som'bitch dead.

I enjoy killing wasps though. I kill those fucks every chance I get. Bees are chill though, they've never fucked with me so I don't fuck with them. A whole wasp nest attacked me when I was like 5 though so I have an eternally burning hatred of yellow jackets
