Sounds like someone lost out both ways.

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.” (attributed to Alexis de Tocqueville political philosopher Circa 1835)

I don't identify as a Democrat. I espouse left-wing philosophy, generally. There are a few things that I don't agree with 'liberals' on also.

However, I don't find the middle to be the 'high ground', though I see so many centrists proclaim that it is, with the same pretentiousness that a hard right conservative proclaims they hold the high ground. Regardless of which superiority complex afflicts you, it doesn't make you special. Its good to have values that you have developed of your own accord, instead of towing someone else's line. That doesn't denigrate the integrity or validity of other political and philosophical persuasions that many have arrived at via the same process.

As far as income equalling cock size, I fully agree with you, it is a strange measure. Donald Trump seems to start every speech with a rant about how rich he is. It is disgusting. If Elon Musk did it, I would find it a more legitimate talking point, but still repulsive.

:bow2:

------------

Update: Yesterday I went to eat with some friends of mine, and 70% were Trump fans. One of them said he knew Trump would "kill ISIS" (did he think ISIS is the name of a lone avenging woman?) and "build that wall and make them Mexicans pay for it."

The staunchest supporters said the following statements, broadly paraphrased:

"That Obama Monkey"

"Trump has balls"

"All illegal aliens are either criminals or taking jobs away from Americans (pay attention to the "all" part)"

"The children benefited by the Dream Act will ALL go back to their countries of origin (which is absurd, because I know the root of the movement and these guys are not leaving America any time soon)"

"George Bush was the best president we have ever had"

And all of those amazing political arguments that make your jaw drop to the floor and wish to die on the spot (the jaw).

I think this is a clear symptom, albeit I cannot generalize their opinions and apply them to others' opinions. But it is the gist I have gotten so far.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Trump 2016 is just what nobody believed Palin 2012 would become, but it's becoming.

I will bet anyone here that if trump gets the nomination, he will pick Ted Cruz as VP.

hahah That would be hillarious (and I mean it, hillarious)!

I cannot believe what I hear about The Donald, but I suspect that, if he does get elected (and I agree that Democrats should stay in leadership, but not because of a candidate that I hate having to consider: It is, once again, due to the party's constituency), his term(s) won't be as bad as Bush's... Still, he plays the "monkey says, you monkeys cheer" game all the time and, no matter how stupid his comments, a lot of people are tuned in due to their disbelief in the democratic system.

Trump is gonna have more trouble with Latinos than with women. Plus with Rubio he gets a foothold in Florida, which Trump will absolutely need to win.

I think he wants to bang Palin... but he's saving a cabinet seat for her. If he picked her for his vp (I know he won't, but a man can dream), we could put all of this nonsense behind us quickly. What an embarrassment this man is.

Trumpeteering leaving the building before Sep. 2016? Fiorino fiddling up? Bush retaking the perpetual spot? Carson health-caring, anyone?

2. Michael Deaver, Reagan's Chief of Staff,  received three years' probation and was fined one hundred thousand dollars after being convicted for lying to a congressional subcommittee and a federal grand jury about his lobbying activities after leaving the White House. Same as with Lyn Nofziger.

5. Richard Secord pleaded guilty to a felony charge of lying to Congress over Iran-Contra. Appointed by William Casey to assist Oliver North.

The way I see it, the Republican party is strangling itself with stupid. I can't tell you the number of Republicans I've talked to who are registering as democrats because the party has come unhinged. There is no equivalency here.

Giving Donald Trump a fucking microphone and following him 24/7 is just fucking stupid. And no, patlal, when I hear him talk, I am forced to turn away in shame. Shame that my country is so fucking stupid, and flagrantly displaying that fact to the entire world. If he actually becomes president, I may just wash my hands of this place, out of utter disgust. What do you think zappaisgod?

"I hate Trump"

His annoying personality doesn't invalidate any of his positions (tariffs, trade with china, deporting illegal immigrants).

I never said I agreed with any of his positions to begin with

Nope , it's his complete inability to explain any of his positions or offer up even minor details in a debate  that invalidates  them .

This is what separates thinking people from sheep, separates liberals from others. Libs go entirely on emotion and personality. Every one of their criticisms of trump boil down to those things and the fact they have been trained to hate gop and conservatives even if they push the same ideas as libs.

Every conversation with a hard core l leftist, comes down to "I think he is no good, he is rude, blah blah" If bernie was a gop and pushed the same agenda they would turn against him. The loony left will vote dem no matter what, the loony right will vote gop and moderates carry the day.

What I find so ironic is that the MSM doesn't ever ask any of the other politicians (R's or D's) the "details" of their positions, but somehow Trump is the only one that doesn't provide them.

FYI, Trump has given plenty of details when it comes to tariffs, trade, and deportation.  The fact of the matter is, people don't like his answers.  People say, "you just can't deport an illegal, you can't build a wall, you can't talk tough to china", but guess what?  A leader can do all of those things and much more if free to do it.

I find it smart that he doesn't give details from the get go like everyone else. It's not an easy decision like chosing what shirt to wear in the morning. All the other candidates seem to have it all figured out... The election is more than a year away. Lots can happen. I'd rather he took his time thinking and building solid policies and publish one every month (it'll keep the public interested) than vomiting everything right away and giving a year for his opponent to over analyze everything saying than nothing will work.
