Lots of people don't get hired for jobs because they are overqualified. Employers know that they will spend a lot of money training them and then they will bolt in short order when something better comes along. This is fairly common.

yeah but did they even talk about his qualifications?
they mentioned IQ
i was in the marines, scored in the 99th percentile on my ASVAB
i think the average in the USMC is ~ 60th percentile
if they said no cause i was too smart that would be kinda fucked

Understood... And that makes sense, but it doesn't necessarily have to do with IQ.
Just because someone is smart doesn't mean they wouldn't like police work.
Maybe they are in for the excitement?
Maybe they get some feeling of moral accomplishment from it *shudders at the thought*
If they were in engineering for a decade and then wanted to join, okay I see that.
Someone who isn't in that kind of position isn't necessarily overqualified though, even with a high IQ.
That's like saying I can't be a software engineer because I lift too many weights.

This rational seems like it was thought out by dumbasses. Wouldn't you hope and expect for them to rise through the ranks? Who the fuck wants to be a patrol cop forever? It's a starting point to work up the ladder. The reason they don't want smart people is because they THINK FOR THEMSELVES.

It isn't stupid at all. iIt has been proven to be quite rational time after time. Train somebody and they fuck off as soon as they get bored or find something better. Often times theer is no place for them to rise within the organization. A lot of really smart cops leave to become lawyers. It is a fact.

Over qualified you say? I feel I'm over qualified to have a shroomery account. I am just too smart.
If I logged in as someone else, I'd probably make that person look TOO good.

What The Fuck...
The stupidity of this reality and beyond words. Too smart to be a cop.... Cause he just might solve too many murders and missing people's case and it would expose the politician who had them kidnapped and killed to get power?
It's good to know that the car that was stolen has less chance of being found because smart people don't qualify. Or is it because he's smart enough to understand that drug laws are stupid and they are afraid they might have an opinion different than the pack?
Thsi is beyond words. It has to be a hoax by ABC or something... Jesus fucking Christ America... Get your shit together

It's a shitty little town. That would not happen in NYC. They would spend tons of money training him and he would leave the first chance he got.

His intelligence could be better used then simply being a cop. It makes sense to me. Maybe a homicide detective would be a better fit.

Becoming a police officer is normally a calling. A dream you have since childhood. It requires a certain dedication. I doubt the guy would just leave. It's a career that comes with benefits and a pension. It not just a job you know? Being a cop is more than just the work. It takes a certain sense of duty. My step dad for example is tolerating a lot of bullshit at work in the last few years and he still does his work happily despite the crap.
