The closing of Rexall stadium in Edmonton tonight was a pretty good ceremony. Smythe's nose is pretty fucked up. But lots of history there and lots of great stories from the best that have ever played.

I was lucky enough to watch a Flames Oilers game there on Halloween this year.

Regular season records are great and all, but Washington needs to only play Holtby one of the last two games. When your negative playoff record extends throughout the franchise's history, that's what you need to worry about. This is their best chance in decades. There is nothing else.

On the other hand, as Jim Morrison said "the West is the best", although that only applies to the NHL (I guess the NBA too).

Hawks weren't very good in the second half, but who wants to play them in the playoffs? They could lose quick, but if they win one series (considering they will play St. Louis or Dallas) they will immediately become one of the big favorites.

There is a reason they call it the second season, and they have been the best at it.

So with one day remaining in the regular season there are two potential seeding changes that can occur. The Islanders can overtake the Rangers for 3rd in the Metro with a win over Philly, and the Ducks can pass LA for first in the Pacific with a win against Washington.

If I were the Islanders I'd throw the game on purpose. I'd much rather play Florida than Pittsburg right now.

Agreed. I'd rather not play Pittsburgh first.

Congratulations to Washington. Ovechkin gets a hat trick to total 50 goals. I believe I heard he's got 50 more times in history than anyone except Gretzky and Bossy. And Holtby tied Brodeur with 48 wins. As I mentioned before, I wouldn't play him in the last game. Winning the all-time record is better than tying the all-time record, but they need to try to win the Cup this year, or at least make it to the finals.  IDK who their second goalie is and how much confidence they have in him in the playoffs.

Also an impressive win by Philly over Boston to get in. I'm going to have to speak for the dearly departed BassFreak, and repeat what he said many times. The Bruins have to fire Claude Julien.

Fuck yea for Philly. I was going to pick them to come back and take the wild card post all-star game, but I remember deciding on Boston because they had a high ROW at the time... I just remember playing Philly and Gostisbehere being sick. Simmons has always been a monster and everyone knows about Giroux. I wish I would have stayed with them cause that would have been 100% on the playoff teams. I still messed up most of the orders of the teams, but I got Pittsburg right. If I remember correctly they were out of a Playoff position when I picked them to finish 2nd in the Metro...

My predictions from early February.

Eastern Wild Card
Rangers
Boston

Central
Chicago

Western Conference Wild Cards

If you guys want to pick the tournament winners and post it on here I will keep track and see who wins using this point system I created:

NYR
    -3 points-
PIT
                  -5 points-
WSH
    -3 points-
PHI
                                  -10 Points
NYI
    -3 points-
FLA
                  -5 points-
DET
    -3 points-
TB
                            Stanley Cup winner 20 points
CHI
    -3 points-
STL
                  -5 points-
MIN
    -3 points-
DAL
                                  -10 points-
NSH
    -3 points-
ANA
                  -5 points-
SNJ
    -3 points-
LA

So for the 2nd round I have:

WSH v PIT, DET v NYI, LA v ANA, DAL v CHI

For the conference finals:

WSH v DET and ANA v CHI

In the finals:

WSH v ANA

And the cup winner:

WSH.

Thanks for putting this up.
2nd Round:Pitt, Wash.,Fla.,Det.,Chi.,Dal.,Ana., LA
3rd Round: Wash, Fla, Chi, LA
Semifinals: Wash, Chi
Cup: Chi

I don't know if anybody else will get in. It might just be me against you. I don't rationally think the Hawks will win, but emotionally I have nobody else in Chicago that I care about who might win in any sport. And if the Hawks can get past St. Louis, which they almost always do, then they instantly become super dangerous.

Yea man. Every year, regardless of how well people think the Hawks will do, they do well. I chose Anaheim over them this year just because they have to win that series sooner or later. But betting on the Hawks in the Stanley Cup Playoffs is generally as good as any other bet. I'm with you on the fact that I am emotionally charged with my pick. These Caps have been in this position a multiple times in the O.V. era and have always shit the bed. Our defense first mentality is the difference this year and once again, I am excited and hopeful.

This looks like the Caps best shot. Winning the Presidents Cup is always a scary proposition because of the expectations/pressure it creates, but home ice advantage throughout is great. You create the defensive matches you want, and force mismatches on the other team.

What happened in the last game? Did Holtby play? I noticed his playoff stats were very good last year despite going 6-7.

They sat the Beast. There was no reason to play him in that game and risk injury. O.V, Backstrom, Carlson, Orpik, and Holtby all sat out the final game. Im just worried about the 2nd round. I know I chose the Caps to win, but if I had my money on the line, I couldn't bet against Pittsburg.

Actually I don't think they sat them out to avoid risking injury, as much as to rest them. I don't know how to say this without sounding like a dick, which is not my intention, but the Hawks have played many more games than any other team in years, and every Olympics they send about 10 guys. And the amount of double and triple overtimes that we keep playing.

This is Washington's best chance to get to the 4th round, but it is a really long process, and they almost never periodically rest the goalie now like they do in the regular season.

Good Luck. It would be great to meet up in the finals.
