No, a Canadian team is not going to win the Cup, unless Chicago, Dallas, LA or Washington becomes part of Canada.

But a Canadian team does need to win the Cup soon. The League needs it.

I think I asked this question before, and I have asked on other websites, but never got an answer. Why in the NHL have some teams played 4 games more than others. It only makes sense in baseball. If a team has a long homestand and then they have a monsoon, there can be 4 or 5 rainouts. There are no rainouts in Hockey.

I know every year Chicago has the Barnum and Bailey Circus in town and the Hawks and the Bulls have long Western Conference trips every January, but it still makes no sense that some NHL teams have played 4 games more than others. Anybody have any clue or insight on this. I've been wondering for years.

Yea he's still in the minors, I should have phrased that differently. If they call him up and give him a jersey he'll generate some hype*

scheduling?

When a team visits it saves the league money if they have shorter rest periods or play back to back nights and travel when they are doing a trip. Instead of paying for hotels for players and staff and media and whatever to sit in their room or practice.

Its looks like most of them are pretty close for each division. Within 4 games anyway. Edmonton has 4 games in next 6 days. Its just the way the master schedule turns it out. Some arenas like Barclay's in Brooklyn is for the Islanders and for the NY Nets. They have to leave enough time between games to get the ice going.

I'm sure lots of other arenas require x number of days a week that are reserved for concert tours and other events.

Looking at the Saddledome in Calgary for February, the venue is shared by the NHL Flames, their AHL Calgary Hitmen, A professional Lecross team, and has 2 huge music concerts in it this month.

http://www.scotiabanksaddledome.com/site/saddledome/?page=calendar

I'm sure many other arenas would have a similar use pattern as you would want to use these huge expensive buildings as much as possible.

I would say you are right. I just noticed basketball also has 4 game differences in games played between some teams. I can't even think of a city where the hockey and basketball teams have separate arenas. One thing though. They can set up for basketball to hockey or vice versa in around 20 hours.. But as you say they do use these arenas for frequent concerts and other events.

Another weird quirk. The Utah Jazz does not play Sunday home games. They say it's out of respect to the 80% Mormon population, who aren't supposed recreate on Sundays, but they also admit it's $, because they think there would be a lot of empty seats. They said they couldn't fill the stadium unless Lebron, the Lakers or Celtics were in town. This has a couple implications. It makes the Jazz crowd their home games together more than other teams, and many of their players have complained about this. They are sometimes forced to play postseason home games on Sundays. Several years ago the owners son said he was refusing to attend the game. I guess they figure the demand for playoffs games is so great that even when Mormon season ticket holders sell their tickets, they will still sell out. Plus I don't think the NBA gives them a choice, if the scheduling is unavoidable. There is a lot of overlap between NBA and NHL playoffs.

The other thing is that this makes it almost completely impossible for SLC to get another pro franchise. The NFL is out of the question (but it's great for college playing on Saturday.) Hockey and baseball would be very difficult to schedule as well.

There are lots of problems with the incident and I think it will be appealed and go to 3rd party arbitration. If Wideman's hit was accidental, then he was way too concussed to continue playing and the league isn't doing its due diligence on concussion treatment. If it was intentional, then he should have been called on a misconduct and been removed from the game. I would like to think that it was not intentional, but the footage looks bad.

Wideman has had an excellent career at the NHL and his prior behaviour has always been exemplary, but this incident is going to be dragged through the mud over the next few weeks and it will go to stricter concussion testing in the league and whatever the ultimate fate for Wideman is.

Calgary had a helluva game tonight though.

I have looked at it in fast motion and slow motion and I can't tell. There are certain things he did with his skates and his stick that look like he was trying to avoid. Other angles it looks vicious.
it's not like in the 80'S when Hawks Tom Lysiak just skated up to official and casually used is stick to take the guys legs out. It was a well deserved 20 game suspension.
This one was a little too fast and complicated to say for sure.

Wait, what? Dude got hit and immediately started skating off the ice. Where does the league come in to play here? And being concussed has got to be the worst excuse I've ever heard anyway.

I really cannot see how anyone would buy that being an accident, I would go as far as to say it qualifies as Assault.

There was no call on the initial hit on Wideman, and it was far behind the play. And then after the hit on the ref Wideman was allowed to continue playing the rest of the game, no matter the intention. So either his brain got rocked and he shouldn't have played, or he assaulted a ref and shouldn't have played.

But he apologized to the ref, told his coach and trainer he was going to keep playing, and he did. Something in the protocol chain got messed up in those sequence of events.

I'm all for the  taking  a dive embellishment rule in NHL. But that guy on Winnipeg got fucked last night. The opponent took at least one of his feat out with his stick and the Jets guy got 2 minutes plus the $2000 fine. I hope the league reviews it.

I wanna say, i no jack about NHL, all i know is there is 3 periods that are like 20 minutes long?

Well last two nights, i have been betting..put in 250, got it to 900$ in first night, last night i made it to 2300. I put 1600 on flames beating canuck(spelling). It was 1-0 end of 2nd peroid. I took the money line, so if they win by a point, i win. Went to sleep after i placed the bet. Woke up and they won 4-1, so now im at 2300, roughly 2000$ profit.

1300 in credit cards will be paid off, 1000$ for some darknet drugs.

Hahaha. Good shit dude.

On another note, Braden Holtby is pacing to become the first goalie in NHL history to reach 50 wins in a season. He sits now at 33 wins. The caps have 31 remaining games, with Holtby to doing the bulk of the goaltending.

you have two games in hand, so he has the best probability, but don't count out Crawford. He get's no respect out side Chicago except the rings he keeps putting on his fingers. I don't ever remember Washington being this good, but I'm not going to lie to you. We have no fear of the East. They play somewhat inferior competition all year, and what year did they make it past the second round; before Ovechkin.

At any rate I have been predicting a Washington/ Chicago final for months.

That makes sense. The Caps have played 5 less games than the Hawks (and still lead them by 4 points). I knew this was a bad snow year in the East, but I didn't know it was that bad, particularly since Washington is kind of the dividing line between North and South. Maybe Washington is not as prepared to deal with snow as some of the more Northern cities.

As the season wears down these differences in games played are a double edged sword. It sounds great to have games in hand, but if you have a lot of games crowded into the end of the season you are going to be tired before the playoffs even start.
