I wouldn't bet on this series because it's too even, but I'm taking San Jose, because the West has been clearly superior for 7 or 8 of the last 10 years. The one coherent argument I've heard in favor of Pittsburgh, is that San Jose got here by beating two physical teams, while Pittsburgh beat some fast teams. This series is speed vs speed. But don't forget that last year was speed vs speed, with little physicality, and the Hawks beat the Lightning. The one thing that intrigues me about Pittsburgh is the Kessel trade and that new line. It gives them more depth than relying on Crosby and Malkin all the time. On the other hand Penguin`s have a good defenseman out. If Crosby plays to his skill level, that will make a big difference. And off topic from the finals, but what does Tampa do about the two goalie situation. They both seem too good to not move one and get value for him.

Two amazing goalies? There should be a goalie off.
Three days back to back to back of 1000s of shots from every angle imaginable.
Who ever scores better over the three days gets to stay with a small raise. The other gets traded for equipment....

Kessel and Hagelin have been playing like top level talent for PIT in the playoffs. If Crosby or Malkin come out to play at their full potential, SJ is going to have their hands full.

If anyone still thinks the sharks stand a chance, after this first period alone, just let me know where to send the short bus.

As the second period showed, you can't judge a series from one period. I think the Pens are going to come back alive in the 3rd, though.

The lucky garbage goals in the second don't compare to the hockey the pens have been playing.

The wrap around the net is a garbage goal... It's always been called a garbage goal.. Anything shoved into the net in the midst of chaos is a "garbage goal" but a goals a goal.
As for the other goal, takes a pass, brings it in through the defense, with not an ounce of pressure, and just shoves it in around Murray's pads.
Those goals were only created from the penguins relaxing with their lead, which they've done all playoff long, those goals were not created by san jose, they were created by pittsburgh, san jose just shoved them in.

No... That's just what we've always called them.. In the end a goals a goal, but a garbage goal isn't something that shows your team performing well
It's not even a personal biased, I fucking hate the pens.
Quote:
What is Garbage Goal? Goal scored from near the net resulting from a loose puck in a scramble or from a rebound and not as a result of a finesse play. Garbage goals are called that way to emphasize that the goal scored is not one that takes skillful moves or the dekeing of players to score.

I swear it's an atmosphere thing dictated by Letang, Malkin, and Crosby. When they play hard, they're a force to be dealt with, but when they're on their heels they can eat shit pretty quickly. Unfortunately, for the rest of the NHL, they're clicking pretty hard right now. Along with that Hagelin, Bonino, Kessel line. Jesus christ. 3 more wins to go.

I don't like using the "Since XXXX" as a statement, whether it's true or not, past seasons are completely irrelevant to current performance in my opinion.
Like, Not to call Brian out, because he definitely knows his shit, just to use him as an example, he said something like, the west has dominated the playoff cup for the past X amount of years. (not sure of the number, doesn't matter anyways)
I personally feel like that's completely irrelevant, with how drastically the teams change after winning a cup due to the salary caps, the past season's performance really shouldn't matter at all in the current season.
I guess in this case, we could boil it down to the coaching attitude, and not the players themselves, and then tie in the previous seasons.
To make it an even stronger point, it'd be dumb to pick the blackhawks for the cup, solely because they've won it 3 times in the past 6 years, when we all saw them trade almost half their talent off, after winning the cup last year.

So for the 2nd round I have: WSH v PIT, DET v NYI, LA v ANA, DAL v CHI
For the conference finals: WSH v DET and ANA v CHI
In the finals: WSH v ANA
And the cup winner: WSH.
So I got 12 points. All in the first round, haha.

So brian got 9 points, which makes me the playoff bracket winner!
Next year I'll get it up as soon as it is decided so more people can get in on it.

I was banned for most of the hockey season
Maaan... now I'll have to be a good boy next year so I can smash ya'll in those predictions.
I feel like I'm the only person who counted CHI out early. I saw how much talent they traded away and knew they couldn't compete at the same level as other teams, before the trade deadline even hit.
I woulda had the caps go farther though, so can't argue there.
I don't think anyone picked STL or the sharks to go as far as they did.

It won't be a sweep. SJ will take at least 1 at home I think. They really came on in the end of game 2. But Pittsburgh just has to get one game in SJ. That city wants to win a cup on home ice.
