Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't selenium the active chemical in Heads and Shoulders?

All you kiddies out there that have ever wondered about why Santa is mostly red with a bit of white...

Something I've been pondering: Fly Agaric is commonly shown, in a traditional context, paired with four leaf clovers. Could this red and green color scheme perhaps have been one of the "pagan" characteristics assimilated by Christmas?

Hah! When I read this from the main index I thought it said "The Psychoactive Pope !"

Me neither. IS this from the book on the Irish SOma. If so it would be the only mention of it as far as I know.

For reference:

Stijve, Tjakko. 2000. De Koningsvliegezwam, Amanita Regalis (Fr.) Michael, de Paddelstoel van het jar 2000 (The Royal fly agaric, the mushroom of the year 2000). Antwerpse Mycologische Kring (AMK) Mededelingen vol. 2:46-53.
A communications of the Antwerp (Belgium) Mycological Societty. Amanita regalis (Fr.) Michael, the Royal fly agaric, is a rare species that the German Mycological Society has nominated as the "Mushroom of the Year 2000." The scarce literature on A. Regalis is reviewed in some detail. In addition, a number of poisoning cases attributed to this mushroom in old and modern literature are reviewed and discussed. Chemical analyyses of 4 Sweedish collections revealed that this species contains considerable amounts of ibotenic acid/muscimol, the same toxic principle as reported in the ordinary fly agaric, A. muscaria. On the other hand, A. regalis was found to be exempt of muscarine and tryptamine derivatives. The Royal fly agaric is chemically close to A. muscaria. Both mushrooms distinguish themselves from A. pantherina - which contain the same toxins - by their remarkedly high vanadium- and selenium content. In Dutch.

Probably buit selenium is found in many mushrooms around the world.

just type selenium in mushroomss in the yahoo search engines. here is one of theose URLS:

Mushroom Nutrition: Cancer Research
... When it comes to selenium content, mushrooms surpass all other items in the produce
category. ... Portabellas and white mushrooms are also good selenium sources. ...
