When PF TEK, pot sterilization, can the jars touch the water?

Ive been reading through PF TEKs and actually am all done to the point of sterilization...Problem is, I dont have extra jar lids to place on the bottom of the pot to seperate the jars from the water.
When pasteurizing I would place a cloth in between the jars and the pot and the jars would touch the water.
Is it okay If I use a cloth? Or would something negative occur when sterilizing? Please help I need to start asap

Its OK if they touch the water you just don't want them submerged so much water can splash on top of the jars.

Yea really it's more important to elevate the jars from the bottom of the pot to prevent cracking rather than separating jars from the water. Water 1/3 the way up the jars should be fine with a foil top.

Well hopefully a washcloth will do the trick.

Don't put a washcloth in your PC, use foil on the bottom. Sometimes its necessary if the PC doesn't have a rack so the jars don't rattle during the process

Crumple the foil up, gently, beneath the kitchen towel, it lifts up the jars and the towel gives a little protection from clanking around in the simmering water.
