I do feel like there is a general increase in their presence recently.

I wouldn't be surprised.  There are a lot more people going to a lot more festivals lately, and apparently a lot more drugs (good and bunk) out there right now.

Be careful, there's still a war on and they are going to get feistier.

It's hard to say bring your own from home, too, because of the bottlenecks created by thousands of incoming fans to the festivals.  There are only so many highways and roads you can take and they are waiting to for you.  Definitely don't allow yourself to be profiled.  Keep the bumper stickers off your car, make sure it's totally up to code.  Follow the traffic rules carefully.  People are going to get arrested on the way in.  Work the odds in your favor.

On that note there's a number of sneaky things they'll do to profile you on ways to the shows. I mean a lot of this goes back 20-30 years of them busting ppl on Dead tour.

1) They will set up with binoculars on bridges over the interstate and see right down into your car....of course they are profiling you. How many ppl are in the car...approx ages...wearing tie dye? Anyone twisitng a doob or have open container??

2) Driving down the interstate you see a sign that says "D.U.I/drug checkpoint ahead". This sign is usually seen just before an exit. The cops are up on that same bridge watching for cars hitting the right lane and stashing shit everywhere. The truth is there is no "checkpoint" ahead...it's at the top of that exit ramp ppl take because they are freaking out...they lead you right into a trap.

3) Different states have different rules regarding radar detectors or other stuff hanging from the rear view mirror. Some ppl like to hang necklaces or whatever from the rear view mirror. In some states they say it impairs the driver's view and they can pull you for that. States  where radar detectors are illegal you can't have one on the dash even if it's turned off...if it's up there they will pull you. I wouldn't advise having a GPS stuck to the windshield either.

4) This is a tricky one...most states require drivers to move to the left or center lane if there is a car stopped in the emergency lane. Sometimes it's a car that's broke down....sometimes it's a cop sitting there with lights flashing yet he has no one pulled over. If you pass that cop car and didn't move left or make a reasonable attempt to move over....guess what..you're getting pulled. This is a tough one to beat. Sometimes traffic is so heavy you really can't move over or you could cause an accident attempting to do so. This one is sneaky and dangerous and they shouldn't be allowed to do it but they do...it's a trap.

5) One early morning coming home on a 4 lane in a 55 mph zone I traveling up a steep hill and blue lights have someone pulled over in opposite direction at the top of the hill. 2 police cars. I'm doing 55 mph and no more. Half way up the hill one comes across the median with lights on towards me. 2 a.m. and no one in front of me or behind me. I'm fucked right? He's pulling me over right?? Well that's what he wanted me to think and to pull myself over in the emergency lane. No go brah...As he made the U-turn and came up behind me he had turned off the blues. He still stayed just behind me and to my left blinding me with the headlights. Followed me for a couple miles then passed and went on. Somehow my tags were expired and I didn't know til the next day. Fortunately dumbass didn't notice that either! :goodluckwiththat2:

There's my 2 cents about traveling to and from shows. Once inside it's all about common sense. If you have stuff stashed make sure it's just personal amount....no reason to have enough to get a felony. If someone is wearing a brand new tie dye shirt and wearing running shoes you can bet they are an UC.

I'm not into the EDM scene but I still feel this is relevant...

A lot of shows or "festies" entail "the lot" or "shakedown street". It's a great place to stroll and take in the scene...also great place to get busted. Depends on what you are doing. It's quite crowded with food vendors, glass vendors, t-shirts, etc. It's locked down pretty well with ppl watching so if police are around you can depend on spotters to yell 5-0!! Which travels down the line fast and ppl can have a heads up.

However...some states have different rules that you may not know about. Lately they have sent in ppl from the ABC (alcohol bureau commission). These ppl have a broad range of authority. Some ppl drag around a cooler of cheap beer selling them for say $2 each. Some places it's not a problem...others it's a charge of selling without a permit. Once they arrest someone for something minor like that it can go downhill if you have something in your pocket.

Let's say you are just hanging in the lot pre-show drinking beers with your friends. Someone comes up and offers you $5 for a beer from your cooler. You could get hit with that charge. Better to just offer a free one IF you are sure they are of age. They use underage kids in these set ups as well...don't get arrested for providing alcohol to a minor because you assumed they were of age.

Even the food police are cracking down on vendors if they don't have a "permit". Some states require it some don't. Same with local IRS agents. Some places you are suppose to keep a record of sales and set aside X amount of $$ to pay taxes. If they find you with a big wad of cash selling grilled cheese they can shut you down and keep that big wad of cash since you were in violation. Not to mention the hefty fine they give you.

Last but not least....stay away from the NO2 areas. Nothing good happens there. I hear the hissing of balloons and I am out of there. All that mess is controlled by the nitrous mafia and they are only there for the $$. Some states the police turn a blind eye...others they don't. STAY AWAY FROM THE HIPPY CRACK! It's a rip off, kills your damn brain cells, and too many ppl walking around with missing teeth from passing out face first from that shit.

Be smart and stay safe people! :zaphod:

Well they must really have a hornet in their panties if they're cracking down on little stuff like that.  To the upstanding citizens of the world the festivals must be nothing more than hives of depravity and crime so I guess I'm not surprised.  On some level the crackdown isn't going to be about the specific laws being broken, though that's how it will be expressed.

I've heard that it's a bad idea to pass cash around openly regardless of what it's for (unless you're giving it to a vendor) because it can be an excuse to stop you, as in "hey I saw her give you money, what are you selling?"

The UCs are pretty little raver girls dressed super slutty and blend in fucking perfect. They go, flirt you up to get some MDMA, once you break and hook them up they leave and tell another officer and they come and bust you. I've seen it at raves in SF

That's a good point.  Don't assume you can just spot an UC on sight.  The good ones will blend right in.  In fact, I wonder if the obvious ones are placed just so you can feel comfortable that you know how to spot one and where they are.

Some of them will still give themselves away.  I remember being at a party once, talking about weed in a noisy, crowded room and suddenly this slightly older girl turns to me and goes, "oh REALLY?  I just ran out of MARIJUANA!"  Her come on made me very uncomfortable and so it was a real quick conversation after that.  I thought she was UC soon after that and now years later I still do.

Strangers that ask you for hookups could be UCs running the short con.  When I was still learning the rules I found out pretty quick that it's not cool to ask new friends for drugs.  If you're cool, maybe someone will offer you some...
