I'm guessing it's a "pet" or is at least regularly interacting with humans. Black Bears are some of the shyest bears out there. They generally avoid humans like the plague. Unless of course they've grown used to them.

You just condemned that bear you know. You don't feed wild bears. Now it sees people and thinks food and will end up getting shot.
Don't feed bears. Where I live its a huge fine.

it'll prolly die anyway without its mommy to protect it, male bears will eat any male cubs especially of a different family.  So most likely he condemned it to a zoo,a circus, or hiding in little kids closets for the rest of its life:pedobear:

Don't feed bears ya goof ball. There is a reason park rangers and wild life preservationists tell you not to feed wild animals.

This bear, considering it came up to you, has likely had contact with people before. So I'm not blaming you. But the reason you don't feed them is because they will associate people with food. The last thing anyone needs is a grown black bear coming up to people expecting food. This can get an animal killed by either a camper/property owner or a park ranger. Rangers and animal control (Or certain companies/animal control units)often have to hunt down animals that have gotten too use to people. It's better the bear be afraid of humans, that way it's safe.

Whatever. Cool thread OP

I think having a bear as a pet would be cool. Then you can go walk it in the ghetto neighborhoods and watch everyone with their "pit" take off running. You'd own that fucking block.  :whatyougonnado:

That bear is going to be returned to the wild. Don't feed bears. On the very page of the place the bear went:

"you should never intentionally feed bears or place food to attract wildlife to your yard for viewing."

It doesn't say it's ok if the cub is cute. It doesn't say it's cool if the bear is under a certain age, it's just don't feed the bears. Ever.

They'll have to try to reinstill fear into that bear cub now if it's ever going to survive in the wild. It would have been smart to live trap the bear and call authorities. It wasn't going to starve to death in a matter of a couple weeks. Keeping that bear cub hungry would have been a lot better for it in the long run.

I know what I'm talking about. I had a mother bear and 2 cubs on my property in 2010 who wouldn't leave and trashed my shit on multiple occasions, even ate one of my cats. They had broken into my tool shed while I was away mining and got into some garbage I had locked away. I tried all summer to scare the bears off with firecrackers and bottle rockets but they were the most persistent creatures imaginable. They'd come back literally 30 minutes after being run off. I eventually had to get odf&w involved and their only recourse was to snare trap the bears. There is no bear relocation program, at least in Oregon. ODF&W won't be held responsible for relocating problem bears.

The bear cub in question here will never have a chance as a wild bear. ODF&W might be able to raise the cub without it seeing the human contact but the damage is done. If the bear responds to hazing in a fearful manner then they may possibly release it if it isn't already labeled a problem bear. Anyway the bear had already been fed by op's sister, and then by op and who knows how often in the 2 weeks that they were feeding the cub. This cub has a bleak future unless a miracle happens and some organization adopts the cub to play a role in teaching people to not fucking feed bears in ANY circumstance! I don't know of any organization like that though. If there was there wouldn't be room for the dozens of bears who get handed this fate every year anyway.

Congratulations, you killed the cub like the poacher killed its mom.

You should be proud
