its not that its bad or anything. but not the speed i was looking for. it does work. the transfers from the brf plates are similar to the cornmeal. where you cut the mycelia off the top and there is no need to cut the brf under it to transfer over. ive got a few more im going to inoculate specifically CRS that is a faster culture than this AA+. so lets see how that pans out. it may call for some variations to the recipe to get ideal conditions.

Doing things fast, but with regard to sterility and good culturing techniques too. How about that nice TEK

eatyualive said: initial trials with the brown rice flour liquid inoculation are not very impressive. with the slow growth in the plate and regular speed for the LI. It isn't making much sense to continue. Although I will try it a few more times before ruling the brf out.
this is day 5 on the jars i inoculated. im goiing to shake them today. my goal is to have the jars fully colonized without a shake on day 5. so far, cornmeal rules.

so i spawned 4 tubs of the Brown Rice Flour Plate Liquid Inoculated Grain.
I had one jar out of 21 get trich after a shake. the rest looked good and were spawned. lets see what happens. this is the grain spawn prior to spawning.

Looking good Eat.. Are those jar lids just RVT and Tyvek? Any reason for2 holes in some and 1 in others?

standard ball lids you get at the grocery store for wide mouth quarts. 1/4" hole drilled down the center in most of them unless i previously altered liquid cultures lids. then you will see two holes. synthetic filter discs are cut into nickel size pieces and rtved on. lids with two holes were converted from older liquid culture lids. thats the only reason there are two. it makes it much easier to clean removing the old self healing injection ports. i wasn't using them anyway. grain gets stuck up in the ships. its a pain in the ass to get out when cleaning.
old lid conversion

synthetic filter disc template with nickels.

here is a shot with some of both.

Eat, at times I have seen the synthetic filter disks mounted on the inside of the lid. I might have even seen that in GGMM. Azur started talking about that approach offline the other day.
What do you know about it? Any opinions on the matter?

i think it would get soaked with water. cleaning it with the filter on the inside would also be more difficult.

Mounting a piece of tyvek on the inside stabbed with a pin several times might keep it clean quite nicely. Also anything that makes it throught the sfd would have like a .5% chance of making it into the jar, GE would be the same. Just more work.
--------------------
I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

I mount mine on top. I'm lazy too... I buy the pre cut small SFDs from shroom supply. I do cut some custom ones out of EasyFelt or EcoFelt from time to time.
Machiavelli - a pin hole would be like 8 lane super highway for contaminant spores... Jus sayin (but I guess you are saying that + a SFD)

got say Eats, every time I disappear I come back to some beautiful teks, cultivation art shall we say. I'm greatful for all the hard work you and your crew are putting out. now it think it's time to get my hands dirty.
so you are doing a swab from a print to agar. my question is do you dip your swab to sterile water then swipe the print or just swipe the print and swipe the dish and go with it?

Personally I just would swipe the print. Most of my swabs are done from jamming the swab in the gills of a fruit tho.

psily,
hello how have you been?
i swab directly from gill. or use a swab on a print directly to agar. ill start with a regular agar mix for 2 transfers. maybe 1 if it looks clean. then on the 3rd go directly to either brf or cornmeal plates. although, the brf plates are a little slow to colonize compared to the cornmeal.

Excited to give this a shot. All I had on hand was self rising cornmeal, hopefully the sodium bicarbonate dosen't cause a problem or open the PC to find a bunch of biscuits. I will stop after work to pick up regular cornmeal in case.

you can use the simple blade assembly and jar for pouring if that is all you have. i used oster blender attachment for years. works great. just take the gasket off when you pour so it doesn't get in the way.

Sweet, I plan on getting some extras and building some nice containers when I can. For now I will have to pour from the jar like you said. Last night I siliconed the gasket to the blade assembly and plan on PCing with a regular canning ring if it fits then switching to the blender attachment after the drop in the SAB. You think the self rising cornmeal will cause a problem? It has some wheat flower and baking powders added. I cooked some off last night but I haven't opened the PC yet. Awesome right up btw, great to see all these great teks used together.
