And now that time permits, ill finish this the right way by spawning at the perfect moment.
I'm also going to under cook my oat grain on the next go round. i think i overcooked the grain on the pan batch. the p. tamp batch looks awesome and is already showing sclerotia.
i didnt know you could let grain jars overgrow. is that just with pan cyans or cubensis too?

well, i went out of town and misjudged the cornmeal plates. i was thinking they would take a week up to 14 days to colonize like some of the regular LI agar plates. but low and behold i inoculated them a week before vacation hoping when i got back they would be 100% done after the 14 days. Well, the cubes took 5 days to colonize 100% so they had an extra week to colonize before i was able to spawn. i generally don't do this, because timing is of the essence. so i was left with what nature gave me.
the tamps and pans took a little longer on the cornmeal LI grain to colonize. so really thats the reason.
i also did a tiger drop of the pans and p. tamps. those took about 23 days by the time i was able to spawn. i mixed them in with the cornmeal prepared LI jars. i guess i should have kept them as masters. but i have a ton of cornmeal plates of everything so i can start again.
i generally spawn a day or two after full colonization of grain jars. life got in the way in this trial. but im prepping round 2 as we speeak. ive made up 50 quarts of oats. and im going to liquid inoculate thai lipa yai, aa plus from cornmeal plates. i may also do a few more exotics. i need to g2g this atl7. its got stones already.

Btw I dropped about nine of these into 1 pint jar and 3 qt jars for masters.
I don't think I'll see 24hr recovery but this will be a lot more interesting once I have some clones.
Haven't been around lately, I'll get some pics up when I get recovery going, checking on them a little later today

wait what?
you dropped all 9 plates into the same jar? how much were you planning on inoculating? one goes a long way.
quick update because i don't have time. but here is one of the AA+ tubs. im fruiting all of these tubs with medium stuffed polyfil. i won't be loosening any top holes or anything. the polyfil was stuffed in at spawning and will remain exactly the same through ought fruiting and harvest. this is the old way ive always used. which hasn't ever caused an issue in the last 15 years.
P. Tamps

AA+

anyway all the tubs of AA+ look like that. also note these were all done with cornmeal plate liquid inoculation. running several experiments at once right now.
lost the cyans to contams prior to flush. although im blaming it on user error in the grain preparation stage. the oats were over cooked slightly.
ill do another round of the CMLI with the pan jamaica.
also i just attempted a higher water volume ratio and the speeds are similar to regular LI with agar plates.
I used a pint jar with blender assembly. i then put in 1/2 pint water to 1 plate of cornmeal.
the first try i used 1/4 pint water to 1 plate and that worked much better. ill update the op.

cool. the higher water volume ratio i used took as long as regular LI to colonize. It added about 4-5 days without a shake. the ideal goal was 5 days without a shake. which was accomplished, but i wanted to see how far i could expand the media in order to get the same speed and growth. right now 20-24 quart jars is perfect with an entire plate with 1/4 pint of water.
i did the last round with 30 plus jars. those jars are now about 99% done. most of them are colonized. a few that i didn't shake well are almost there.
ill be spawning them this weekend.

gold leader we have lift off on the cornmeal plate Liquid inoculation. pins
NO DIAL IN NECESSARY
The tubs are already dialed in without doing anything.. medium polyfil in all holes for the win! check out the sides of the tub shots to illustrate this. so throughout colonization, pinning and now once fruiting begins, the polyfil was left alone since spawning. nothing was loosened, nothing was changed. i simply turned on the fan once colonization of the casing was 30-50%. and the light source was turned on. so these tubs colonized in a dark closet.

Dude I lied, these cornmeal plates are fast as FUCK compared to regular A2G LI. I just checked my KSSS and they're 95% done with no shake at all WTF.
Will be doing more of these and actually documenting it this time

the kss is an aggressive cube. how many days did it take to colonize the jars?
the thai varieties always colonize the fastest for me then the tex.
so that will be your judgement scale. others like pe, ape may take a day or two longer. but should be fairly close in time frame. good to see you finally have gotten back into the hobby. i bet it feels good

I used yellow cornmeal and on a whim I decided to add blue food coloring and of course, it turned green. I am going to transfer my AA+ agar clone to some of these corn meal mush plates. My idea is to cut wedges and drop them into 1/4 pints of sterile water. I will wait and use them after the cornmeal naturally disolves into the water.

re: oat prep
I brought my water to a boil and then dumped my oats in, turned off the heat, and let sit for 20 minutes on the burner. Then strained them and loaded them straight into jars without further drying. PCd for 120 minutes.
I have seven jars colonizing using this prep and so far I'm really happy with the results.
Prior to that I was bringing the water to a boil with the oats in it but I ended up with some clumped grains at the bottom of one of my jars.
It's a variant on what I heard MudaFuka and insanemike talking about in innocule's thread.
Here's a jar that was G2Gd five days ago. It's been colonizing at fairly low temperatures (bottom shelf in my closet, too cheap to turn the heat on this early).

Thanks paper back. I'll give this a go next. Sounds exactly like my wbs prep. Only time I get clumping is when I don't let the grain strain out for 10 mins. When I load it wet, I got clumping once. That was me In a hurry. Only happened on my last batch.

Ha yeah but I use green in regular plates. It should serve the purpose you need it for.

I'm familiar with KSSS, it was pretty much the only thing I grew before .
I'll document my next time better but it's been less then a week with no shake and they're fully colonized. That's the fastest I've ever seen. Normally I get a week with a shake.
