I started my meditation experience with qi gong, a very energizing and healing thing. It is good for beginners as it focuses on movement instead of pure concentration. From that I have moved on to various meditation techniques and am currently trying to learn remote viewing. All this over about 5 years. Check out the "modern qigong" site, great for beginners, also hreat if you have physical problems. Good luck!

Lucky you man!! It's taken me nearly 7 years to get near that point, and I'm still not quite there yet!!
It doesn't have to take that long at all. 1-2 weeks is pretty quick, but even for someone with no meditation experience, it shouldn't take longer than a few months with the right techniques and training. I had some experience behind me, but when I really knuckled down and made this my goal, I managed it in about 3 or 4 weeks. And once I had a strong foundation, it made everything else seem so much easier and effortless.

Breath is a good way to ensure you maintain focus.
