Lactarius species. Maybe Lactarius deliciosus.

Thanks for suggestion. .
It sure looks like Lactarius, but I didn't get any latex when I broke the cap.
We don't have L deliciosus in our area according to the books
The spore print is starting to come out- could be white or yellow- still very faint.
The cut stem is possibly browning a bit as it sit around

I think I see some latex on the gills, in the fourth picture, bottom-right sub-picture, vertically above the stem (with respect to the picture, not the mushroom).

If it's not a Lactarius then it's a Russula, and i think it is much more likely to be a Lactarius.

My best guess is L thyinos- I think they are edible. I'm not sure how good they taste, but they sure look good.

If anyone knows better, can confirm or refute the ID or can say anything about the culinary aspects, it would be helpful, as I'd like to pick a bagful.

The latex i assume you are reffering the the pelicue? It wont be there if the mushroom grts a chance to dry out a bit.

I think it's latex that soaked the stipe. I get orange juice on my hands from these. There are definitely other orange lactarius besides deliciosis. I found one that looked exactly like deliciosis abut it had copious white latex that was incredibly hot like a hot pepper. I'm almost certain it's lactarius. See if it turns green when bruised or refrigerated.
