Found on a disintegrating stump in a valley of a mixed hardwood forest in the Northeast two days after a heavy rain.

Hmmm...might very well be...when I stumbled on them I was really off the beaten path. I'd love to be able to bumble my way back and grab some and try a tissue culture of one. I have a half dozen available 2% MEA petri dishes available.
MIGHT be able to search for them after work today!
Thanks.

Harvested only the medium sized Chicken of the Woods, left all the small ones. Will go back to this magic spot on Sunday and get the rest! Doing the happy dance that I was able to bumble my way safely back into the deep cut in the land to retrieve these. Not one bug on 'em and they're all soft and tender! Lord, I'm SUCH a nerd!

Left all of these which are located on the back-side of the stump. I hope the deer don't eat them before I get back.

I have two of the nicest looking ones in my SAB right now on some aluminum foil. Do polypores make a decent print, or should I put some tissue samples onto agar?

Thank, elprawn! The actual color is exactly that of a creamsicle ice pop. Here's what I harvested. I left behind at least as much, probably more. Two modest sized fruits are in my still air box. I hope I get a couple of decent prints. Might be fun to try and grow out a nice strain on agar.

The best tasting chicken of the woods are the youngest ones. So soft and juicy If I were you I'd take just the small ones and leave the rest to do their thing. You should be able to put a tissue sample on agar and get growth. But they are not the easiest mushroom to cultivate from what I understand. You should definitely keep us posted on your results. (both growing and cooking them!)

OK...so I spore printed 2 Chicken of the Woods fruits, the larger one of which gave a nice snow-white print. I used that to inoculate two petri dishes of 2% MEA agar. The waiting game begins.
Sunday I may go back to the stump for one of the fruits I left behind and try a tissue clone. I'm 1 for 1 on cloning tissue from an outdoor mushroom...don't want to ruin a perfect record!

Cool. Keep us updated. Also, it may improve your record to use Antibiotic Malt Extract Agar.
