Help Me Save My Salvias!!

So basically I have no way of replacing these salvia plants if they die. I have neglected them too long (I don't live with them) and didn't visit them enough. They seem really ill and I don't know what kind of soil to buy to transplant them, etc. to fix them. I figure I should take cuttings and transplant the rest but I don't have any soil nor do I know what to use. They haven't been in a humidity dome for years but would it help? I don't know what I'd make one out of but I could try. Everything about them is sad, from leaves to soil. Please provide advice if you know anything about salvia. I will do whatever I need to to save them. Here are some pictures:

Those claw leaves look like the plants have way too much N.
I have no experience with salvia, but have seen those on cannabis plants.
Maybe a bit too moist as well, seeing the algae on the soil surface.

I Would say cut them at the base and stick them in water to root but idk about that because they are currently suffering for over watering....

Yellowing leaves.. brown edges... not too bad looking. It does look like someone has been over watering them. I'd say take some cuttings, put them in water and in a humidity tent for a few weeks, then place them in some soil that has been mixed with 50% or more perlite, with a humidity tent for a few weeks until the roots take.

I personally wouldn't go with the humidity tent, but that's just me... I think the most glaring issue I see is that these plants' soil has been staying too wet for too long (judging from the algae). I'm thinking you need a different soil mix for future endeavors.

the soil looks way too compact and dense, roots are probably suffocating in there.
i would either make new cuttings as suggested above, or repot the plants into new soil. i move my sally cuttings into miracle gro cactus/citrus mix and they love it. that or just regular MG potting mix. these are both peat-based and sally seems to love the nice airy fluffyness for her roots.

Humidity tents should be a requirement for taking cuttings. I tried taking one without one and it withered away in a day or so.

High humidity seems to be a must. I use my good old SGFC and that works well for me. I never lost a cutting that way.

i never make my cuttings in a tent and they do just fine. i root them in plain water, sticking the stem in an old seltzer bottle... never lose any. just make sure the parent plant is fully acclimated to the same conditions.

 Works for me, at least.

Alright I got new potting mix and am holding off on watering them to see if over watering is part of the issue as some of you suggested. Thank you all for your input. New pics will be posted shortly.

I got busy again and they are almost dead. No one where I live sells them and nobody I've talked to ships here. I have set time aside to deal with them tomorrow. Can anyone recommended me a brand of potting soil? I was just going to go to crappy tire (shitty Canadian department store) to get soil as garden centres in this area are probably closed for the winter. I really don't want to see these die. They still have some green but they're fading fast. I am upset I could have deprived them of attention for so long.

Not gonna lie about the potting soil thing - I either use MG or just mix up my own for sallies...
Just got to thinking though looking back through the thread, have you checked to see if you have fungus gnats? Seeing all that wet soil you had before has me wondering.

I used to grow mushrooms (miss it so much) and remember hearing of the dreaded gnats but it's not something I thought of. I will look up what they look like and check. I'm probably going to butcher the plants down into hopeful cuttings. If the main plant is left with no leaves is there a chance it will grow new ones in new soil or will it just be dead? There's not too much life on the plant now to imagine really taking a cutting and somehow saving the mother. I used to make my cuttings in jiffy pellets. Is that the way to go? I still don't know if I should apply humidity because obviously whatever I'm doing isn't working. I really am praying that I can make one viable cutting and save my babies. My san pedros, my peyotes look fine. When I grew pot, beautiful. Magic mushrooms, monotubs on rye and coir, amazing. It hurts to see my babies like this especially since they're irreplaceable atm but honestly I hate seeing things die period, I don't even squish fucking insects. Not my place to add suffering to the world there's a shit ton already.

I agree, as much as I hate miracle grow, its what I use for my salvia plants. I just mix in more perlite than soil. If you don't want to use miracle grow, use Espoma organic seed starting mix and add perlite to it for a 50/50 mix. Espoma contains mycorrhizae which really helps. In fact that's what I plan on putting all of my new cuttings in instead of miracle grow.

Should I make my cutting in a jiffy pellet as I have done in the past with salvia and cannabis or is there a better way. I really can't screw these up.

Usually, it is safest to do what has worked in the past for you. Personally, I always root mine without soil in water that has a air bubbler under the cuttings....
Best of luck!

I decided against jiffy pellets because the hydro store that sells them near me is run by stoner dicks (not saying stoners are dicks these guys are just dicks). I have peat moss anyways. I'm thinking peat moss or damp perlite. I got some promix potting soil and some perlite as the store I went to had almost nothing. Been having a hard time lately finding worm castings, I use them when I make cactus soil. Anyways this is all finally going down tonight. A transplant and some cuttings. Any last minute advice would be appreciated. I really hope I can keep something alive.
