Lucky find
    #22245281 - 09/16/15 10:46 AM (8 years, 4 months ago)

Species #1

I was going around the yard this morning and found these. Most were buried in decaying straw and grass, directly above a stick. The roots actually attached to it. I started digging and uncovered quite a few young ones and several older dying ones.

Going to get a spore print on it here later.

Note: these were not grown manure and they seemed to be concentrated around the stick buried in the grass.

Species #2

These were not at surface level at all. Not even sure if they are a fungi. They did have a taproot so I could not assume they were part of the stick. None were found on the expose timber. Just thought they were worth a look. I'd try a spore print but I looks like they have seeds. So strange.

First looks like Marasmius oreades to me.

Second is a bird's nest fungus, something in Crucibulum, Cyathus, Mycocalia, Nidula, or Nidularia. See http://www.mushroomexpert.com/birdsnests.html.

Just lucky in the sense that I had to dig them up.

Think you're correct. This should serve as a pretty good example of age difference in caps. These were exposed to different light conditions, so they very well could be.

Can I get a TI second?
